Nell Eliza Lomax

Nell E. Lomax passed away March 2nd, 2024 at the age of 90. She is once again able to hold hands with her late husband, David L. Lomax, and be reunited with her Mother, Father, Brother, and Sisters; and sing "I Love You a Bushel and a Peck" to baby Robert and cuddle him. Nell was born on December 16th, 1933 in her family home in Tulsa, OK; the youngest of five children. She graduated from Central High School in 1951, and married the love of her life, David, on October 2nd 1953. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Lomax; her father, Mit Perry Ledford; mother, Minnie Hugo Ledford; her brother, Bill Ledford; her sisters, Anna Sharon, Wihle Beard, and Mitzi Rake; and her grandson, Robert Lomax Jr. She is survived by her six children, Nanette, Pam, Cindy, David Jr., Robert (Bobby) and Denise; 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Nell and David celebrated 66 years of marriage in October 2019 and though David moved on to Heaven in June of 2020, she loved and missed him every day. They enjoyed great friendships with her siblings and their spouses. The cousins played outside, while their mothers gathered around the kitchen table and their dads congregated in the next room planning a hunting or fishing trip. Evenings often ended up with seeing how many cousins could fit in one bathtub and then begging for sleepovers. Houses filled with love and laughter became the legacy passed on from this 'greatest of generations' who cared and shared with each other throughout their lives. Nell had many lifelong friendships with childhood friends, neighbors, and others; however, her sisters were especially close and dear to her. They could spend hours on the phone. (David always said that phone grew out of her ear.) Sweet David got her a 30-foot phone cord that could reach from the kitchen to the den and outside if necessary. She listened 'to win' on the radio, and developed exceptional speed dialing capabilities and often won prizes. She was talented in other ways too, as a young girl (around 12 or 13) she won the citywide ping-pong championship. Mom taught us many things, how to fold cloth diapers at a very young age with 6 children under the age of 8, she needed the help. Once you could ride a bike and developed a good sense of direction, you could be sent to the store on errands, usually in pairs or a group. We thought it was a fun adventure, but she may have just needed a break! As we grew up, she found time to help with our activities. She helped with PTA, Cub Scouts, Blue Birds, Camp Fire Girls, Pep Club, Booster Club; and was everyone's chauffeur. Occasionally offering transportation to toilet paper a house. She was great shopper and loved a bargain. If the Olympics had a shopping competition, she might have taken a medal! In later years she and QVC became best friends. After David retired, they did some traveling and were able to see more of the country. When they were out of town for a couple of weeks or more, we realized how much they did for us. We would be ready for their return. Nell and David spent a lot of time with their grandchildren and loved every minute of it! After holidays and on weekends Nell often had a house full of kiddos. She did a great job as a short order cook and her flat grilled cheese sandwiches were favorites for generations. We had our 'Wonder Years' because we had parents who loved each other, loved us, our kids, and grandkids. We knew no matter where life took us, the path back home was always the same and we would be welcome any time. Mom is once again with Dad in their heavenly home. Our angels on earth are now angels in heaven. Til we meet again.... Visitation is Thursday, March 7th 2024 from noon to 8 PM, at Moore's Southlawn Funeral Home. Funeral Service is at 1 PM on Friday, March 8th, 2024, at Moore's Southlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 9350 E 51st St, Tulsa OK. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Clarehouse, 7617 S Mingo Rd, Tulsa, OK 74133. Clarehouse provides access to hospice services for people in need and was indeed a great blessing for our mother and family.
