Betty Lou McDaniel

Betty L. McDaniel, 75, passed away December 1, 2013. She was born April 9, 1938 to parents, Orville M. and Carmelita Griffin. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, JoAnn Griffin and Patsy Mitchell. On June 26, 1960, she married Ronald T. ?Buzz? McDaniel. Over the fifty two years of her very happy and loving marriage, Betty was a devoted and fun loving wife, mother and grandmother. Their marriage was enriched by three wonderful children-Kelly, Carrie and Brett. Kelly resides in Houston with her husband Marc Tronzo and two children Louis and Megan. Carrie resides in Dallas with her husband Doug Canter and two children Haley and Jack. Brett resides in Tulsa with his wife Kim and two sons-Cooper and Coleman. Her Family was the joy of her life. Betty was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She attended Will Rogers High School and matriculated to the University of Oklahoma where she pledged Pi Beta Phi and majored in mathematics. Betty used her gift of leadership to enrich every organization and community in which she lived. At the University of Oklahoma, she was a Top 10 Freshman Woman an officer in her sorority and participated in numerous campus activities. After her marriage, she moved back to Tulsa where she served as President of Youth Services of Tulsa, Pi Beta Phi Alumna President, numerous offices within the Junior League of Tulsa, and City Wide Chairman of the American Cancer Society. Betty also worked as a math teacher and was a very successful realtor and broker owning and operating McDaniel Realtors. Betty was passionate about helping families in need. She and Buzz fostered children in their home and she served on the Board of the Tulsa Boys Home as well. Betty could hardly drive by a family in need without stopping to see how she could help. Betty was an avid tennis player. She and her tennis partner, Janet Briggs, competed in tournaments locally and regionally with much success. Betty enjoyed a physical challenge and trained diligently in order to compete in the Tulsa run. Building fellowship and community amongst her family and friends was very important to Betty. She loved to entertain in her home, where ever that might be, which was always she and Buzz?s pride and joy. Whether it was hosting Christmas for the family, Sunday school parties, Oscar Awards or OU watch parties, Mom was ready with a smile. In her later life, she was so good about organizing groups that ranged from bridge gatherings to book clubs. A celebration of Betty?s life will be held at Harvard Avenue Christian Church 5502 So.
