Edward Bert Mosier

Edward Bert (Ed) Mosier, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away at his home on Monday, March 16, 2020. He was 72 years of age. Ed was born on July 25, 1947, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to parents Bert Eugene Mosier and Martha Fike Mosier. In 1955, the family moved to Abilene, Texas, where his parents began teaching at Abilene Christian College and Ed attended Abilene Christian schools, graduating from Abilene Christian High School in 1965. Ed attended Abilene Christian College where he was a proud member of Frater Sodalis fraternity and completed a BBA degree in Marketing in 1969. After two years working in the business world, Ed realized his calling was to minister to others, and he entered his lifelong ministry of service and leadership to congregations of the church of Christ. In 1979, he accepted a position as youth minister with the Edmond (Oklahoma) Church of Christ. The second week on the job he sponsored the youth group to summer camp at Sooner Youth Camp where he met a beautiful young lady from Sherman, Texas, and he knew immediately that Martha Blocker was the love of his life. Ed married Martha Louise Blocker on December 21, 1979, in Sherman, Texas, and they continued their ministry of service for 40 years until his death. Ed and Martha welcomed son Bennett Ryan into their home, followed four years later by daughter Katie. From 1981 until 1989 Ed served as youth minister of the Garland Road (later Highland Oaks) Church of Christ in Dallas. In 1991 Ed became the Education Minister of the Park Plaza Church of Christ in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he served faithfully for 28 years until his retirement in 2019. Throughout his ministries, Ed was known for his innovative and creative programs which are now implemented in numerous churches. He organized Work Camps during which teens would visit impoverished neighborhoods in their respective towns and assist elderly with necessary repairs to their houses. Providing Wednesday night meals to church members prior to mid-week activities are standard practice today, but were started by Ed. He was always looking for opportunities and activities to serve people. Ed was also known for his servant heart. When anyone was going through difficult times - severe illness, personal tragedy, individual crisis - Ed was the first one there to comfort and help in any way he could. Often people would come home and find their lawns neatly mowed, edged, and manicured and later discovered it was Ed who was responsible. When a family was in need of a good meal, Ed would cook a delicious pot roast with all the trimmings, dessert and deliver it in time for dinner. He was famous for his barbeque brisket and loved to cook it for others to enjoy. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Bert Eugene Mosier and Martha Fike Mosier. He is survived by wife, Martha Mosier, son Ben Mosier, daughter Katie Mosier, and grandson Elliott Mosier, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Survivors also include sister Virginia Mosier of Abilene, Texas; sister-in-law Ellen McCollum and husband John of Richardson, Texas; nephew Matthew McCollum of Fort Worth, Texas; nephew Casey McCollum and wife Kasey of Denton, Texas; great-niece Clare McCollum and great-nephew Micah McCollum, both of Denton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made in honor of Ed to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or The Park Church of Christ in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
