Jim Alexander

Jim Alexander, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and educator, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and integrity that touched countless lives. Jim's life story began with an extraordinary blessing: he was adopted through Catholic Charities in Oklahoma City by Elva and Frank Alexander. He would spend over 80 years paying this gift forward by immersing his family in love and support. Jim spent his childhood in Collinsville, OK fishing, hunting and helping his mother support the Catholic Church. Jim attended St. Frances de Sales Catholic School in Oklahoma City before graduating from Collinsville High School. Following graduation, he served two tours in the Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, where he first discovered the breathtaking beauty of Hawaii-an experience he would later revisit with joy as a grandparent. After his service, Jim pursued his passion for teaching, earning a master's degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. This love of knowledge evolved into a remarkable 37-year teaching career with Tulsa Public Schools. Jim taught primarily AP U.S. History and Oklahoma History at Booker T. Washington High School with stops beforehand at Horace Mann Junior High, Carver Middle School. Known for his engaging storytelling and genuine care for his students, he became a favorite teacher for many who often wished he taught even more classes. His big heart and unwavering dedication to his students left a lasting impact on generations of young people. But Jim was more than a teacher. He was a masterful prankster and world-class teaser who brought humor and warmth to everyone he met. He perfected this art in early marriage with Carolyn, his "serious" counterpart, and passed his mischievous spirit down to his children and grandchildren, creating a legacy of laughter. Jim cherished family adventures, especially trips to Colorado, where he was the ultimate grandparent-not just to his beloved grandchildren but even to their dogs. His love of the Rockies was a testament to his appreciation for life's simple joys: being with family in a place he adored. In retirement, Jim traveled extensively, fought and conquered cancer twice with unwavering faith, and continued to inspire those around him with his strength and grace. Jim will be remembered for his steadfast love, patience, and understanding for all his family and friends. His kindness and compassion extended far beyond his family, touching the lives of countless students and all who were fortunate to know him. Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn Alexander; his daughter, Emily Wilson (James), and grandson Patrick; his son, Weslie Alexander (Kari), and grandchildren Emily and Alex, as well as several nieces and nephews. His love for them was boundless, and he cherished every moment spent with his family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Catholic Charities, 2450 N. Harvard Ave. Tulsa, Ok 74115, in Jim's memory, a tribute to the organization that gave him the gift of family and faith.
