Lloyd Andrew Welch

Lloyd Andrew Welch, age 95, died Friday evening, March 14th in his Tulsa home with family by his side. He was born in Ponca City on February 13th, 1930 to local contractor Nelson Herbert "Ted" Welch and Eulalia Ida Pennock Welch. Lloyd graduated Ponca City Senior High School and began full time employment with his Father and Brothers at Welch Masonry Construction Company, founded by his Grandfather in 1893. After his Father's retirement in 1963, he and his Brothers became co-owners of the company. The Welch Brothers were well known locally as well as throughout Oklahoma and Kansas for their excellent work. Lloyd's legacy can be seen in many residences and buildings including the Ponca City Library addition, Continental Oil Company R&D offices, OSU campus, Temple Emanuel, Pioneer Bank and other area banks, churches, public, business, and professional buildings, schools, and apartment complexes. He earned his 50 year Union card and was a Lifetime Member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers. Lloyd married the love of his life, Norma "Joan" Cook on June 11th, 1950. They had three Daughters; Monta Jo Welch, Teresa Kay Welch and Sue Ellen Welch. They were married 64 years at the time of Joan's passing in 2014. Lloyd had a green thumb, always had a large vegetable garden, fruit and pecan trees. He loved all kinds of reading; poetry, history, science, current events, Louis L'Amour and The Bible. Lloyd was a true humanitarian, a kind introspective man that you could converse with about nearly any topic. He was a "dissectologist" a jigsaw puzzle lover. He had a keen eye for color, design, and had the uncanny ability to look at any patch of clover and find at least one 4 leaf clover every time. Their Grand Daughters and then Great Grandkids were their absolute joy. Upon retirement, Lloyd and Joan moved to Tulsa to be near their youngest Daughter Sue and her spouse Marcy Smith. They took some time traveling with a camper to winter in South Texas for fun and then to Iowa with Laborers for Christ. Lloyd and Joan were active with the church, Meals on Wheels, and the Brookside Southminster Seniors group. In 2021 Lloyd moved into a petite bungalow built for him by Sue and Marcy. He enjoyed independence and security in his home, behind theirs, until his passing. He is preceded in death by wife Joan Welch; His parents Ted Welch and Eulalia Welch; infant Sister Patricia Welch; Four Brothers Allen Welch, Joseph Welch, Don Welch, Leroy Welch; and Sister Nila Ruth Welch Larkins. He is survived by: Daughters Monta Welch, Teresa Mahan and spouse Leonard Mahan, Sue Welch and spouse Marcy Smith; Cherished Granddaughters Sarah Stone and spouse Annie Humphrey, Olivia Beasy and spouse Kyle Beasy, Jayme Epple and spouse Matt Epple; Beloved Great Grandkids Matthew Epple, Sophia Epple, Brayden Epple, and Jack Beasy; Cousins and many Nieces and Nephews. The family would like to especially thank Lloyd's caregivers who helped him enjoy a happy and fulfilled later life: Granddaughter Jayme Epple and Grand kids Matthew, Sophia and Brayden Epple, Nephew Fred Welch, Beverly Klenda, Manuela "Manie" Chandler, and Susie Bruski. Memorial service will be held on Friday, March 28th at Noon at First Lutheran Church, 1244 S.
