Nancy Ann Lenox

Nancy Ann Lenox, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on April 23, 2025. She was 85 years old. Born on October 25, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Nancy was the cherished, firstborn daughter of Henry and Mary Schloemer. Nancy was valedictorian of her graduating class at Southport High School in Indianapolis in 1957. At the age of 18, on April 26, 1958, she married the love of her life, Gene Clifford Lenox who had enlisted in the army and left for basic training immediately. They then spent a year in Germany, and she returned to the States for their son Anthony Gene Lenox to be born in October 1959. She graduated summa cum laude from Indiana Central College with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1964 and went on to earn a Master of Science in Education from Indiana University in 1970. She devoted 26 years to teaching elementary school and was deeply passionate about education. Nancy had a lasting impact on countless young lives through her dedication and warmth. Together, Gene and Nancy built a life filled with love, family, and traveling adventures. Nancy planned multiple trips for the family to Hawaii and other exotic destinations, many Caribbean cruises, and a Trans-Atlantic cruise on the Queen Elizabeth II. She even took a solo trip to Osaka, Japan, to visit Kumiko Yamagami (nee Yanagi), a beloved student whom she had taught when Kumiko was in Elementary School. They maintained a friendship for over 50 years. She and Gene gave unending love to their only son Tony, providing unwavering support for his many sporting endeavors and offering love and encouragement to his high school and college friends and teammates. Some of these friends stayed in touch with her until her passing, a testament to the lasting bond she created. Nancy carried on her love of traveling with her grandchildren, taking them on memorable trips to Disney World, Florida beaches, Mount Rushmore, theme parks, and many other fun destinations. She had a special fondness for historic locations and enjoyed sharing educational insights with them, encouraging them to keep travel journals and to document their experiences. This loving tradition has had a lasting impact on her grandchildren, inspiring them to cherish and appreciate the world around them. After the passing of her husband Gene in 2008, Nancy moved from Indianapolis to Sedona, Arizona, where she found solace in the breathtaking landscape and joy in new friendships. After suffering a stroke in 2017, she relocated to Tulsa to be near her son Tony, her daughter-in-law Melody, and her three adored grandchildren Bethany, Cody, and Nataly. Nancy will be remembered for her generous spirit, unwavering positivity, boisterous laugh, and her ability to light up every room she entered. She made friends wherever she went and was always ready to lend a hand or a listening ear. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Schloemer, her younger sister Sara Jo Schloemer, and her husband, Gene Clifford Lenox. She is survived by her sister Jackie Chapman and nephew Howard Chapman of Indianapolis, son Tony Lenox (Melody), and grandchildren Bethany Lenox-Brown (Ryland), Cody Lenox, and Nataly Lenox of Tulsa. At a future time, there will be a private, family service at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Nebraska, where Nancy will be laid to rest beside her beloved Gene, bringing her journey full circle, reunited with him in eternal peace. The family would like to thank the Life Senior Services PACE Program staff for the care they gave Nancy during her eight years in Tulsa. She spent her final year in the loving care of the staff at University Village Health Center, whose kindness and attention brought comfort to her and her family.
