Patricia A. Lucy

"I wish you all love and joy every day and the power of God's grace and love and to know love works!" These are the final wishes of Patricia (Pat) Alden Lucy, who passed away Nov. 7. Pat was a child of God and a wife (first and always!); grandmother (a close second); mother (beloved and to many beyond those birthed); and dear friend. She was a "true original" - funny with a brilliant mind, incredibly loving, supportive, and articulate. She possessed a swearing vocabulary that would "make a sailor blush" and surprised many when she got a tattoo at 87 years of age. She firmly believed in living authentically and in a life of service to others. Pat often said, "We must act as the hands and eyes of God on this Earth," and she consistently walked that talk. Pat believed in the value of everyone as a unique individual and tirelessly advocated for those under-represented. Pat was born on April 19, 1932, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Richard and Ethel Alden. She had two brothers, Dick and Ed. Pat particularly admired her father, a petroleum science pioneer and the chair of Phillips Petroleum's research and planning board. While attending the University of Oklahoma (OU), her brother introduced her to a fellow fraternity member, Robert (Bob) Lucy, who became the love of her life. As husband and wife, Bob and Pat adored each other for nearly 70 years. They were dedicated charmers who never met a stranger and who were renowned for their gracious hospitality. They shared their faith and were active in College Hill Presbyterian Church, expressing their faith to others as role models, through the allocation of their resources and through pastoring, teaching, and publishing. Pat was a lifelong learner obtaining a bachelor's degree in education from OU and later, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa (TU). She later taught law at TU and in her seventies, attended Phillips Seminary to become a lay pastor. Her last and favorite engagement was providing ministry to the female population at the David L. Moss Correctional Center - a role that uniquely suited her faith, values, education, and experience and gave her great joy. Known as "Nonnie" by her five grandchildren, Pat ensured everyone she met felt special, appreciated, heard, and respected. Pat leaves behind a huge void. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Lucy, her parents, her two sons, Rob and Rick, and her two brothers, Dick, and Ed, and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dana Lucy Birkes and husband Michael: her grandchildren Taylor Birkes, Kelsey Ney and her husband Drew, Robert Lucy, Erin Lucy, and Graham Lucy, and niece Jeanne Christian. Pat also leaves behind many beloved family members and friends who will always cherish her significant, positive contributions to their life experiences. Pat/Mom/Nonnie - you were always our rockstar. Mom/Nonnie/Friend know we LOVE YOU LOVE YOU LOVE YOU until the cows come home!
