Thomas Coy Herrmann

Thomas Coy Herrmann, 69, passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma on February 3, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born in Sioux City, Iowa on January 8, 1946 and was the oldest of two children. He was the son of David Edward Herrmann and Carol Rosalie Schneider of Wichita, Kansas. Tom grew up in Wichita, Kansas and graduated from Wichita Southeast High School in 1964. Tom went on to attend the University of Kansas and graduated from the business school with a degree in Finance in 1968. Tom married Anna Christine Steinmitz (Chris) on August 31, 1968 in Parsons, Kansas. They moved to San Francisco, California where he worked for DelMonte Foods Company. Tom went on to earn his Master's degree in Taxation from Golden Gate University in 1970. Tom and Chris moved back to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1972, where he worked for Touche/Ross and earned his C.P.A. Tom held varying positions as an accountant until the mid 1980’s including co-owning his own accounting firm. From there, he became very interested in entrepreneurship and invested in and owned multiple companies over the years including Powdered Metal Products, Royal Purple Transportation, and most recently HOSS. During his children’s early years, he was very active in all of their activities including coaching multiple basketball and t-ball teams. He also enjoyed taking his family on many vacations including numerous road trips to the east and west coast. Over the years, Tom and Chris enjoyed hosting large extended family gatherings where one of his favorite activities was carving the Thanksgiving turkey. Most recently, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren and being their “Paps”. Tom was a long-time member of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church. He supported and participated in many youth ministry activities at the church. He was active in the Pilgrimage Sunday School class where he served as President multiple times. Tom also served on the Finance Committee for the church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Anita Campbell and his nephew Clark Amos. Tom leaves many memories to be cherished by his family. Tom (“Paps”) is survived by his wife, Chris Herrmann of Tulsa, Oklahoma and children Jason Coy Herrmann and fiancée, Shauna, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jana Christine Humble of Portland, Oregon, John Christopher Herrmann and his wife, Erin, of Naperville, Illinois, Jeffery Cole Herrmann and wife, Amanda, of Eudora, Kansas. He had five grandchildren; Claire Humble, Regan Humble, Cooper Herrmann, Maxson Herrmann and Caroline Herrmann. He also had a large extended family of brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church followed by a reception in the church parlor. The Rev. William Tankersley will officiate, and arrangements are being made by Moore’s Memory Chapel, 918-583-6148. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials be made to Boston Avenue Methodist Church, 1301 Boston Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74119.
