Vernon Dean Foltz

On July 17, 1932 at a residence in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Fannie (Rich) Foltz gave birth to her and her husband Charles' 8th child, another son, whom they named Vernon. Vernon had 6 brothers and 1 sister. At a very early age due to a decline in his father's health, his mother was forced to put the younger children in St. Joseph's Orphanage in Bethany, Oklahoma. As they aged out they were sent home to work and help support the family; Vernon was the last to leave. He and his brother George delivered newspapers on bicycles in the Muskogee area and he helped at his older brother's boat repair shop on Ft. Gibson Lake. When he was old enough, he joined the Army during the Korean conflict. Vernon was stationed in Alaska keeping America safe from an invasion from the enemy thru Russia. Upon being discharged from the Army he enrolled and went to OU earning his degree Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. After graduation Vernon traveled around working at various newspapers in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. He returned to Muskogee and found a job in Tulsa at The Oil and Gas Journal. He worked there several years and then went to work at Spartan School of Aeronautics as Publications manager until his retirement. After retirement, Vernon bought some acreage in rural Tulsa county near Sperry. He remodeled a couple of houses; during this time he was going to classes to become a Deacon in the Catholic Church. On April 30, 1993, he was ordained a Deacon in his Church, where he served for many years; he was very devoted to his religion, and if you ever wanted to know anything about the Bible, you could just ask him and he could tell you. Besides his carpenter skills, he had many hobbies to keep himself busy outside his Church work, including gardening and weather tracking, He loved cooking and was in charge of the kitchen where he lived. He was always there to help anyone who needed help. There is so much that could be said about Vernon and his kindness and good deeds to others. Unfortunately, on March 11th that first breath he took on July 17, 1932 left his frail body at the OSU Medical Center under the care of some of the greatest Doctors and RNs who were very dedicated to the care of their patients, and he began the journey that will lead him to be with The Lord. Vernon is survived by one brother, Lawrence of Redding, California, along with 8 nephews and 1 niece.
