Beloved wife, mother of three daughters, grandmother to eight and great grandmother to nine children.
Donna was born on July 6, 1935 in Ogema, Wisconsin. She spent her childhood in
Chicago until her father, William George Kaufman, died at a young age. Her
mother, Leta Faye Kaufman, moved her family to Austin, Texas to be near her
parents. Donna spent her junior high and some of her high school years there and
during her junior year, her mother married Louis James Dittemore. The new
family moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where her new stepfather worked for
Phillips Petroleum. It was very hard leaving all her friends in Texas for her senior
year of high school, but God had a plan.
She leaves a strong legacy to her daughters, Lisa Evans, Dru Hammer, Melinda
Wheeler, their husbands, Jim Evans and David Wheeler. Grandchildren Carly
Evans Edgar, Rusty Edgar, Brady Evans, Jennifer Evans, Jessie Zei, Mike Zei,
Armie Hammer, Elizabeth Hammer, Viktor Hammer, Angie Hammer, Hattie
Wheeler, Buck Wheeler, Hilary Wheeler, and Lilly Wheeler. Great-grandchildren
Perry Edgar, Hampton Edgar, Libby Evans, James Evans, Kate Evans, Harper
Hammer, Ford Hammer, Louie Zei, and Winnie Zei. Donna is also survived by her
brother, William Kaufman Jr.
Being an honor student, Donna received one of only two scholarships awarded
through Phillips Petroleum. This allowed her to attend Oklahoma State University,
where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. Donna and Doug met at OSU
where the Sigma Nu house and the Pi Phi house were next door to each other.
They married their sophomore year of college. Doug left for the Army to serve in
Korea, not knowing they were expecting their first daughter, Lisa Kay. When
Doug returned from Korea, they didn't have the money for both to finish school,
so Donna worked full-time as the secretary to the President of OSU and supported
Doug through college.
After graduation, they moved to Dallas and Doug started working for Mobil Oil
Company. After having a second daughter, Dru Ann, they decided to move back to
Doug's home town, Tulsa, to go into business on his own. A third daughter,
Melinda Lee, was born in Tulsa. It was in Tulsa, through a group of Christian
business men that Doug and Donna gave their hearts to the Lord and brought Jesus
Christ into the center of their lives, marriage, and family.
Donna was complete in serving the Lord, being a Godly wife, mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother. She happily supported Doug in his ministry,
going all over the world sharing Christ and the Gospel. Donna was a voracious
reader and studied the bible intensely. She amazed us all one Christmas as she had
memorized chapters and told them to us verbatim. Donna had a passion to serve
others and loved to rock the premature babies in the hospital and serve meals with
Loaves and Fishes for years.
Donna endured many illnesses and never complained. She always put everyone's
needs above hers. At the end of her life, she told Doug it was time for her to go to
be with their Savior. She finished the race strong. They had a love affair and
were best friends for 65 glorious years. We are heartbroken, but we are rejoicing
that she is healed and whole by the mighty hands of Jesus Christ. She loved the
Lord with everything in her and now she has received all the promises of Heaven.
Mom, you will be always loved and forever missed.
