Florest Enola Arduser (Forney)
Florest "Flo" Arduser, 100, died at home, as she prayed for, on Sunday, July 27. She was born on a farm near Dixon, IL to Samuel and Hazel Forney. The family moved to Mt. Pleasant, MI when she was eight where she milked cows every morning before school. She attended Michigan State Teachers' College until she married the love of her life, engineer Horace "Doc" Arduser, in 1934. The couple moved to Tulsa when transferred by Doc's employer, Pure Oil, right after their marriage. They remained married 52 years, until his death in 1986. Their only child, Peggy, was born in 1936. Flo volunteered for the Tulsa Boy's Home, Children's Day Nursery, and was one of the first Pink Ladies at St. Francis Hospital. Later she became a buyer for their gift shop, which was her favorite volunteer job. Her décor and clothes exhibited her passion for style and elegance. She earned a degree from the New York School of Design complimenting her life-long love affair with beautiful things. She had a true eye for quality. At age 60, Flo started a career as a sales associate for Bruce G. Weber Precious Jewels. She considered working for Bruce Weber her "dream job," and didn't retire until age 80. Whether playing bridge with friends, canasta with her grandchildren, or poker with her husband Doc and other couples, Flo relished a good card game, winning more than her share of hands and bringing much laughter to the table. She excelled at cooking, for which her motto was, "a little more butter will make it better." At her 100th birthday party in December, Flo attributed her longevity to sitting down to three square meals a day and good clean living. Providing a standard of how to live life, she was happy, optimistic, full of love, and the ideal of glamour. Preceded in death by her husband, Horace, and all nine siblings, Flo left behind her only child, Peggy Gates Smith; grandchildren, Tracey (Ed) Hill, Ronald (Carene) Gates, Heather Gates, and David (Kelly) Gates; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. They all agree that to know her was to love her. A private family memorial service will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to JBFC, 1934 East 45th Place, Tulsa 74105 or First Presbyterian Church, 709 South Boston, Tulsa 74119.
