Obituary

Joseph Gary Spence and Beverly Jane (Neerman) Spence
1954 - 2020

God had a plan! Joe and Bev were both born in Tulsa in 1954, he in January and she in August. They passed into heaven together on March 2, 2020 also in Tulsa.

Joe's parents, Charles Sager Spence and Marjorie Lydia Spence, had predeceased him. He is survived by his brother Jeff and his wife Sharon.

Beverly's parents had also gone before her to the heavenly kingdom, Charles F Neerman and Jane Roberta (Jenkins) Neerman. Her oldest brother Charles F Neerman Jr passed away several years ago, leaving wife July. And another brother John W Neerman recently died leaving wife Sharan. Bev is survived by brother Robert L Neerman and his wife Kristi.

Joe and Bev leave behind two children: daughter Amanda K (Spence) Reynolds and her husband Judd; and son Bryan G Spence.

The grandchildren who miss them and have only happy memories of their love and attention are Sunday, Shiloh, and Simon Reynolds, and Jeniffer and Larissa Hernandez. Remaining family includes numerous nieces, nephews, cousins in the first and second levels!

They had another family, too! Their church family. Bev and Joe were founding members of Cornerstone Church after decades as members of Asbury UMC. As a matter of fact, Joe retired from his position as Operational Director at Asbury in recent years. And Bev joined him in retirement very recently from Superior Pipeline.

Joe and Bev both graduated from Edison High School in 1972 and went on to attend ORU together, graduating in 1976. Having married before college graduation, they began their lives together in loving accord with one another, and dedication to worshiping God and following His plan for them. That plan always included reaching out to other people, meeting their most pressing needs, blessing them as God's instruments.

They were quite busy all their lives, being involved in church, sports, civic organizations, helping out however they could! Joe was focused on and profoundly active in baseball all his life! Playing it, watching it, coaching it, dreaming about it! Many lives were changed because of his involvement. Beverly has things on her activity resume like Swimmets Synchronized Swimming Team in high school, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in college, Fleet Feet Running Club, 10K Pathways Walking coach, and last, but definitely not least, the hundreds of gallons of blood and platelets she donated to the Red Cross over her life time! Seriously, hundreds!!

In all of this, however, Joe and Bev's hearts' desires were to bless others and give glory to God. They wanted anyone they came in contact with to see Jesus through them and to reach out for Him. Now they are doing just that, reaching out and touching their Savior.

Thank You, Father God, for these your precious children and for the Savior they served.
