Lou Wilcoxson, 73, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on January 17, 2024. He was born in Duncan, Oklahoma. Lou, also known as Louis, was a beloved son, father, grandfather, and brother.
He is survived by his son, James Wilcoxson, and his granddaughters, Abby and Chloe Wilcoxson. He is also survived by his sister, Myra Decker. Lou is preceded in death by his parents, James T. and Evelyn Wilcoxon, his wife, Louann Wilcoxson, and his brother-in-law, Sam Decker.
Lou was a graduate of Waurika High School and attended East Central State College for two years. He then transferred to the University of Arizona where he earned a BA degree in Political Economics. Upon his return to Oklahoma, he earned a master's degree in public administration from Oklahoma State University where he worked in leadership roles for on-campus housing.
Lou subsequently worked for the Social Security Administration as a Public Information Specialist, from which he retired in 2009. He worked tirelessly to create a positive public image and to provide valuable information about Social Security through active participation in a number of organizations and advisory boards.
As an amateur radio operator, Lou became involved with disaster service work for the Salvation Army. He served as a government liaison officer at a variety of disaster sites including Hurricane Andrew, OKC Murrah Federal Building Bombing, and in NYC following September 11, 2001.
