Mary Louise Houchin

Mary Houchin, 98, passed away on January 27, 2022. She was born in Okmulgee, OK to Arthur Spotts Crutchmer and Blanche Pearl Blackburn Crutchmer on December 9, 1923, and spent her childhood there. She graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1941. She married Alfred Lawrence Houchin in 1945. They had four children. Mary worked as a professional seamstress for Woolf Bros. and later Cathey's and Mayo Furniture stores. She made custom made drapes and window treatments in addition to custom slip coverings. In 1979, Mary discovered china painting and it changed her life. She remained a lifelong painter until shortly before she passed away. She was a charter member of Oil Capital China Painters and Tulsa Porcelain Artists. She also belonged to Eastern Oklahoma Porcelain Art Teachers. Mary was married to her husband Lawrence for 61 years. She was preceded in death by him, her mother and father, brothers Vernon and Bud, sisters Georgia and Maxine. She is survived by her children, Sylvia Hill, and John and Lynda Houchin of Tulsa; Dana and Ronnie Spivey, and Dan and Naomi Houchin of Austin; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Due to Covid, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Yale Avenue Christian Church, 3616 South Yale, Tulsa, OK 74135.
