Richard Hicks Brunson, Sr.

June 28, 1931 - March 1, 2022

Richard Hicks Brunson Sr. passed away at the age of 90. Preceded in death by: his father, Hicks Brunson; mother, Rose Brunson; brother, Wesley Brunson; sister, Betty Livingston; wife, Dorothy Brunson; and 2nd wife, Glynda Brunson. Richard is survived by: children, Denise Newton and her husband Mike; Richard Brunson Jr. and his wife Karen; and Christy Peterson; 7 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchildren. Richard was born on June 28th 1931 in Tulsa, OK. He graduated from Will Rogers High School and entered into the Navy in 1951 to serve our country. He graduated from Las Angeles City College and was trained by the man who invented the contact lens. Richard was a pioneer in contact lenses. He attended Tulsa University and went on to become a 2nd generation optician. He was a former president of the Opticians Association of Oklahoma, and was an active member of the Tulsa Rotary Club for many years. Richard had many interests. He started playing golf at the age of 19 and continued to play throughout his life, finally retiring his clubs at the age of 85. He loved sailing on Grand Lake and later moved his boat to Naples, FL where he owned a condo. Richard once set sail off the coast of Florida and made his way to the Grand Tortugas with his good friends Jerry and Roy Hull. He also enjoyed studying his family's genealogy, and traced his family all the way back to the 1700's. He was a man of great Christian faith and loved everyone that knew him. Funeral Service will be 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
