Obituary

Robert Darrough Monnet "Bob" (December 9th, 1956 - May 20th, 2023) was born in Tulsa, OK to Burford Darrough Monnet and Annabelle Goodman Monnet. He was a rambunctious child from the start and channeled his energies into Boy Scouts and adventuring. He spent many of his summers at Philmont and Zink Scout Ranch, obtaining the honor of Eagle Scout.
He was a graduate of Edison High School and The University of Oklahoma receiving a degree in Petroleum Land Management.
He was a loving father to two daughters, Lauren and Paige, and devoted to long-time partner Katie Saunders.
Bob's love of the outdoors continued into adulthood. He shared this love with his daughters, taking them to Alaska, Costa Rica, and on countless float and ski trips.
A lifelong athlete, he was a high school swimmer and briefly swam with Oklahoma State University. He transitioned to triathlons and claims to have competed against Lance Armstrong in the 1980s (Lance won). As he got older and his knees gave out, cycling became his passion. He was a dedicated member of The Tulsa Wheelmen and could be found most Wednesdays and Saturdays on long rides around Tulsa. The cycling community became his second family, and he contributed his time and efforts to supporting and improving cycling in Tulsa.
Bob was training to complete his 10th Tulsa Tough ACE Challenge, a 100-mile grueling ride in under 5 hours. Having already earned nine ACE jerseys, he was excited to add a tenth to his collection. He had more adventures in the saddle ahead of him as he was scheduled to travel to Spain this summer to ride the Pyrenees with the love of his life, Katie. He suffered a heart attack on Saturday during a training ride.
He was an entrepreneur and started several small businesses, most recently DocuFile, a title and escrow company. An amateur historian and voracious reader of non-fiction, he had a special interest in World War II and American History.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother. He leaves behind his partner Katie (Katherine) Saunders; daughter Lauren Monnet and husband Jesse Ullery (Lexington, KY); daughter Paige Monnet and husband Ben Nissen (Vail, CO); brothers Bill (Sausalito, CA) and John (OKC); sisters Maureen Hyde (Santa Fe, NM) and Katharine (Cody, WY). He will be dearly missed by all.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Sands Springs Fire Department. We will be forever grateful for the care provided by Captain Branson's team.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers please direct donations to The Tulsa Wheelmen, a cause near and dear to Bob's heart. PO Box 52242 Tulsa, OK 74152
