Obituary

Agustin Ibanez-Ramirez, known to his friends as "Cuba," was born to Berta and Federisco Ibanez-Ramirez on August 28th, 1953 in Havana, Cuba. He passed from this life into the hands of His Savior on Thursday, February 15th, 2018 in his home in Tulsa, OK. He had a large family in Cuba and the U.S. including his brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren.

Agustin fled to the United States amidst dangerous circumstances in May of 1980. After spending several years in various states, he finally found a home in Tulsa. At first, Agustin struggled to find stable housing. He often slept in immigration facilities, homeless shelters, and at times on the streets. Things changed for Agustin in many ways, however, when he became part of the First Baptist Church of Tulsa family.

In 2009, Agustin began volunteering at the FBC Caring Center in downtown Tulsa, helping with cleaning, receiving donations, and carrying groceries in the food pantry. Within two years, Agustin was hired by FBC and continued to work at the Caring Center and in community ministries, until 2016 when he retired for health reasons.

Agustin will forever be remembered by his friends and co-workers at FBC Tulsa, along with his fellow men's Bible Study members. He is also dearly beloved by his community at the Denver House and Terrace View apartments. We will always remember his smile, friendliness, and willingness to go out of his way to care for anyone he met.

Agustin is survived by many other friends in Tulsa, and other friends and family in the U.S. and Cuba.

Services for Agustin will be in the worship center at First Baptist Church of Tulsa on Thursday, 3/1/18 at 10:00am. Dr. Eric Costanzo (South Tulsa Baptist Church) and Marissa Carter (First Baptist Church of Tulsa) officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Agustin's honor to the Caring Center of First Baptist Church of Tulsa or the Mental Health Association of Oklahoma.
