Albert Milton Childress, Sr., 62, was on his ranch west of Sperry, OK, when God decided it was time to take him home, on Friday, July 5, 1977. He was born on Sunday, January 10, 1915, in Bristow, OK, to William Harrison Childress and Leighle (Foster) Childress. Albert was a long-time Oklahoma grocer and vice-president of the board of directors of Affiliated Food Stores, Inc. He owned grocery stores throughout Oklahoma from 1945, until the time of his death, and he held positions on the Affiliated Food Stores board since 1955. Albert is survived by his wife, Retha (Burgett) Childress, of the home; son, Albert Childress, Jr. of Jenks, OK; daughter, Mrs. Jack "Donivee" Jett of Tulsa, OK; father, William H. Childress of Tulsa, OK; sister, Jewel Salesman of Tulsa, OK; brother, William Leo Childress of Alvin, TX; 3 grandchildren; and a lifetime of friends. He was preceded in death by his mother. Albert will be greatly missed in the days ahead, but his spirit and memories will live on within each of us, because we were privileged to have him in our lives.
