Obituary

Albert Floyd Rine was called to his eternal home on July 4th after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born in Houston, Texas on June 18, 1957 to parents Albert and Margaret Rine, both deceased.

Albert is survived by his wife Sharlotte, sons Louis of Arkansas and Brandon of Tulsa, sister Susan Crockett and brother-in law Brian of Tulsa, sister Margaret Friend of Clifton, Texas, mother and father-in-law Paul and Deanna Storm of Tulsa, brother-in-law Phillip and wife Toni, brother-in-law Stephen, aunts Betty Wright of Skiatook and Jean Pittman of Winsboro, TX, 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

Albert graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa and Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. He met the love of his life, Sharlotte Storm and they married on May 31, 1980. Albert served his country as a Signal Corps officer in the U.S. Army rising to the rank of Major. During Albert's 10 years on active duty, the Rines traveled to Ft. Gordon, Georgia, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, Kaisers Lautern, Germany, and Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. Albert left active duty and returned with his family to Tulsa in 1995 where he continued serving in the Army Reserve, while starting a new career as a teacher with Tulsa Public Schools. He piloted the first Junior ROTC-style Leadership Program at Cleveland Middle School where he taught until May 1998 when he was deployed to Bosnia with the 486th Civil Affairs Battalion in Broken Arrow. He went on to teach history at Foster Middle School, Wilson Middle School, and Will Rogers College Junior and Senior High School. He was selected Teacher of the Year at both Foster and Rogers.

Albert was an avid chess player and served on the boards of both the Oklahoma Chess Association and the Oklahoma Scholastic Chess Organization. He shared his love of chess with many students thru his work with OSCO, by organizing competitive chess clubs at schools where he taught, and by working with Chess Adventure Camp during summers. He had a love of music, played the coronet and shared his beautiful voice in church choirs as well as the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Tulsa which later became Light Opera Oklahoma.
