Albert Joseph (Al, A.J.) Unser, 81, entered eternal life on September 23, 2023, in Tulsa, OK. He was born August 14, 1942, in Winston-Salem, NC, to the late Albert B. and Ruth E. (Marten) Unser.
Mr. Unser retired in 2010 after 20-years as CEO of the Greater Tulsa Association of Realtors. Previously, he worked as Executive Director/CEO with the Boards of Realtors for the State of Indiana, Colorado Springs, CO, and Decatur, IL. He also worked in the same capacity with Sigma Chi Fraternity International.
Mr. Unser proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a Naval Aviator during the Vietnam War (HMM-262, CH-46 Squadron) achieving the rank of Captain. Semper Fi! His other life-long passion was fitness. He completed multiple marathons and triathlons, most notably several Pikes Peak Marathons.
Mr. Unser earned a Business Administration degree from Mississippi State University (1966) and graduated from St. Teresa High School, Decatur, IL (1961) where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America, receiving Eagle Scout honors.
Mr. Unser is survived by his wife Sharon (Kiernan Grover) Unser of Tulsa, OK, daughter Nicole E. (Unser) Putnam and husband Jason P. Putnam of Dallas, TX, son Travis J. Unser and wife Annie (Rawley) Unser of Pensacola, FL, five grandchildren: Jacob and Johnathan Putnam of Dallas, TX, and Greta, Juliana and Camille Unser of Pensacola, FL, two stepsons: Jason and Janel (Wheelock) Grover of Coral Gables, FL, and Aaron Grover of Arlington, TX, and six siblings: Jan Unser Mangold of Pleasanton, CA, Del and Dale (Donnelly) of Scottsdale, AZ, Bob and Colleen (Unser) Plebanek of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, David and Elaine (Unser) Mills of Peoria, IL, Jerry and Ginger (Fleming) of Little Rock, AR, and Earl and Annette (Unser) Brinker of Bonita Springs, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lynn (Langstaff) Unser, a son, his parents formerly of Decatur, IL, and a brother Larry F. Unser formerly of St. Louis, MO.
The family will receive guests immediately before the funeral Mass of Resurrection at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 28, at St. Bernard Clairvaux Catholic Church (4001 E. 101st, Tulsa), followed by interment of ashes at Calvary Cemetery (9101 S. Harvard Ave., Tulsa).
