Alexander Norbert Bresin, age 94, passed away Friday, October 17, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born to Nona and Battista Bresin on February 29, 1920 in Pordenone, Italy. He is survived by his son, Terry Bresin, and granddaughter, Casey Bresin, of Everett, Washington. He is also survived by close friends and neighbors who loved him dearly, Don O'Day and Penny Tipton.
At the age of four, Alexander immigrated to Niagara, Wisconsin with his family. He had an active childhood, and was a distinguished golden glove boxing champion in the featherweight division at age 18 and 19. He entered the U.S. Navy after high school in 1939 and served on the U.S.S. Brooklyn and the U.S.S. Haraden for six years, traveling to American Samoa, New Zealand, Tahiti, Ireland, England, Panama Canal, Bermuda, Cuba, and Pearl Harbor. He graduated from Purdue University in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and remained a loyal Purdue alumni for the rest of his life.
He met his late wife, Geraldine Bresin, in grade school in Niagara, WI. They moved to Tulsa in 1956 to pursue his 50-year engineering career with Westinghouse, where he installed and repaired nuclear power plants in Yugoslavia, China, the Philippines, North Africa, South America, Korea, and Italy – just 100 miles away from where he was born! They raised two children in Tulsa, Terry and the late Diane Bresin, and then spent their retirement continuing to travel the world. He loved to garden, build tools from scrap materials, and further his education. He was always thinking, and his engineering expertise and creativity were displayed through unique artistic pieces and useful gadgets. His unique humor style and stories from around the world will be powerfully missed.
