Alfred Bernard Thiessen passed away on April 18, 2013 in Tulsa Oklahoma. He was born on December 9,1925 in Hitchcock, Oklahoma to Benard and Lydia (Dobrinski) Thiessen. In 1926, the family moved to Inola, Oklahoma where he graduated from Inola High School in 1943.
Alfred served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Casco tending seaplanes during the occupation of Majuro and Kwajalein, carried cargo during the buildup for the Philippine operations in late 1944, and supported not only seaplanes but also a squadron of motor torpedo boats during the Okinawa invasion in the spring of 1945.
After the war he returned to Oklahoma where he farmed and later drove a truck before becoming an electrician. October 16, 1954 he married Mary Frances Lewis from the Tulsa area, they made there home and raised three daughters in Inola until moving to Tulsa in 1977. They were married for 58 years until she preceded him in death in September of 2012.
Alfred worked as an electrician and retired from Oil Capital Electric in 1990 the first time. He remained active doing is favorite things: traveling, watching TV, especially John Wayne movies, going fishing, gardening both flowers and vegetables. He grew some of the best tomatoes around and he just loved being outdoors and hanging out with his constant companion Tuffy dog.
During his life he was surrounded by many friends and family.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Sandra Kay, his sisters Hildreth and husband Melvin from Pryor, OK, Gladys and Hank Groth from Melboure, FL, and Norma Allen from Vian, OK. Alfred was survived by three daughters, Pam Beasley and her husband Dwight of Verdigris, Debra Thiessen of Tulsa, and Nancy Ashcroft and her husband Art of Sand Springs; six grandchildren, Dustin and William Beasley, Summer Ashcroft Rains, Sasha, Marie and Ryan Ashcroft; three great grandchildren, Chloe, Cooper, and Clayton. Three sisters, Lela Logan of Shattuck, OK, Thelma Williams and husband John of Oklahoma City, and Ann Winkle of Tulsa and brother-in-law Elwood Allen of Vian, OK. One sister-in-law, Virgina Ryder of Tulsa; five brother-in-laws, Jim Lewis and wife Mary, of Tulsa, Jerry Lewis and wife Judy of Owasso, Bill Lewis and wife Mary of Sand Springs, Dean Lewis and wife Sherry of A1luwe, and Donald Lewis and wife Bobbie of Nowata, and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Special thanks to his niece Caron.
