Alice Marie Baker was born on January 1, 1937 to Taylor O. And Opal Eldridge in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She died on April 20, 2024 in Tulsa, Oklahoma after a long struggle with cancer.
Alice grew up in Hominy, Oklahoma, attending school there and graduated high school in 1954. Alice began working in insurance agencies at a young age and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to continue her work. Her first husband was Howard Gorrell and they had 2 children- a daughter, Janet and a son, Tony. After their divorce, Alice married Hunter Mauldin. They were married for 46 years until his death in 2007. In 2016, she married Benny Baker for a short time until his death in 2018.
Alice had a long career in the insurance business, primarily at Leslie Insurance Agency then at Chandler, Frates and Reitz Agency. She was always a very active person with many hobbies which included, water skiing, bowling, dancing, painting and snow skiing. Alice was an avid reader, loved to do word puzzles of all kinds, played cards regularly and was always up for a good game of Scrabble.
Preceding her in death were her parents, T.O. Eldridge and Opal Hammons, her sisters, Joyce and Ann, and her brother Robert. She is survived by her daughter Janet, son-in-law Tom and her son Tony, son-in-law Brian, granddaughters Noelle (Chris), Marie and Rachel (Surajit), great granddaughter Ella Marie, her sister Sharon, brother-in-law Bill and many nieces and nephews.
Alice was a longtime member of Fellowship Congregational United Church of Christ in Tulsa. She will be remembered by family and friends for her kind, intelligent, generous spirit, boundless love of life, and always learning new things.
