Obituary

Alice died at her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma on January 6, 2016 at the age 61 after going through a number of recent medical problems.

Alice was born on April 5, 1954 in Scotland, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Charles and Doris Ford. She had three sisters, Doris, Shirley, and Susan. She was the youngest of the four girls and was adored and spoiled by her sisters as the "baby". She attended grade school in Kansas and graduated from Central High School in Tulsa. She continued her education at Tulsa University, graduating in 1976 with a degree in criminal justice. Alice worked at the Cross-Town Day Care Center in Tulsa and began work at Burkhart Office Supply Company on January 1, 1985, working as a faithful employee for 31 years until her death.

Alice enjoyed outdoor activities including fast pitch softball, camping and boating, spending much time with many good friends on her softball teams, playing the sport well into the 1990's. She had fond memories of her trips with the team to tournaments in the Tulsa area, Texas and elsewhere. She enjoyed working in her tree-shaded lawn on W 62nd Street and spent time in front of the chiminea on her patio. Making things from nothing was a passion. She constructed many things around her house and brought home pallets from work to make into small pieces of furniture for family and friends. She enjoyed a number of craft projects, often giving them to family and friends. She loved to read and share what she was reading with others. She was a devoted daughter, checking in on her mother several times a week after her father died, making sure she had what she needed and finding ways to make life easier for her as she got older. She made trips to visit with her sisters, being present for weddings and enjoying her 7 nieces and nephews and later 11 great nieces and nephews. She made a point to attend an annual Christmas week sister get-together in recent years meeting her sisters in Kansas City or Wichita or here in Tulsa every year until her health prevented the outing this year. Susan, Shirley and "adopted" sister Cyndi spent fun times together for movie marathons, casino trips and just hanging around playing cards and word games.

Alice was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church. Until the last year, she was an active member of the book club there and women's circle. She played in the bell choir many years, enjoying the big bells and helping others learn to play. She had a ready, beautiful smile and quick sense of humor that endeared her to all who knew her.

Alice is survived by three sisters, Doris K. Ford (Jack Carter) of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Shirley Symns of Atchison, Kansas and Susan Howey (David) of Wichita, Kansas; nieces Debbie Comber, and Kellie Harvey and nephews Doug McKown, Brad McKown, Matthew Symns, Jay Howey and Ryan Howey and 11 great nieces and nephews and the many friends she made everywhere she went. She is preceded in death by her parents, The Reverend Charles Ford (1996) and Doris B Ford (2006).

Alice was cremated. Her memorial service will be held Monday, January 11, 2016 at 11 AM at the John Knox Presbyterian Church, 2929 E 31st Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma. A reception will follow for the family and friends to greet each other and share their memories of Alice. Her ashes will be placed in the John Knox Memorial Gardens at a later date. Moore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Please call John Knox Church or the funeral home for more information.
