Alice Ann Stanish (East) died peacefully on December 29th, 2024, at age 91 in Tulsa.
Alice was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She attended Michigan State University where she received her bachelor's degree in elementary education. Alice also received her master's degree in education from Manchester College in Indiana in 1977.
She married the love of her life, Richard J. Stanish, in 1959 at the Michigan State University chapel. They were married until 2022 when Richard passed away.
Alice was proud to be an elementary school teacher, teaching primarily 4th grade. She taught at numerous schools in Michigan, Indiana and Oklahoma, retiring from Union's Darnaby Elementary School in 1996-after being named Teacher of the Year there. She had many happy memories of her students and colleagues throughout her 37 years of teaching.
Post retirement, Alice was active in Assistance League of Tulsa where she helped run the Bargains thrift store and clothe children for Operation School Bell. She was an active member of PEO and a Deacon at John Knox Presbyterian Church of Tulsa spearheading the acolyte program.
Alice and Richard were avid travelers and went to many countries around the world. They also enjoyed time with family and grandchildren. Alice loved playing bridge and bunco, hosting parties and celebrating holidays.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Julie Stanish of Chevy Chase, MD and Cindy Marshall (Cary), of Tulsa, OK as well as grandchildren, Madeleine Marshall, New York, NY; Isabelle Marshall, Denver, CO; and Grant Marshall, Boston, MA as well as her beloved dog, Searcy.
