Obituary

Alma "Bernice" Moore was born in Henryetta, OK, to John Jefferson Casey and Tennie A. Bise Casey on December 28, 1922. She passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021, at her home in Epworth Villa in Oklahoma City where she had resided for the past 19 years.

She was raised in Henryetta and was a graduate of Henryetta High School in 1940. She went on to attend Okmulgee Junior College for one semester where she met her husband to be, Gerald Eugene "Gene" Moore. For the next 2 years she attended Oklahoma City University and Gene went to the University of Oklahoma...they KEPT IN TOUCH! Gene left OU Engineering School to join the US Air Corps as a B24 Navigator in the European Theater. Before departure he and Bernice were married on July 21, 1944, in Pueblo, Co. After Gene was discharged and the war ended, they returned to Norman where Gene continued his studies and Bernice took a job of secretary to the Dean of Men. While working with the Dean, the Dean of Women met with Bernice and suggested they organize a Veterans wife's group-they did, and Bernice served as its president until Gene's graduation in July of 1946.

Gene was employed with Phillips Petroleum Company as an engineer and they moved to Borger Texas where their first child, Patrick Eugene, was born in 1947. Soon after Bernice took a job as Secretary to the Industrial Relations manager of the U.S. Rubber Co. in Borger, Texas. It was in Phillips, Texas, on a little company golf course that Bernice first swung a golf club with her husband's guidance and she became addicted.

In 1949 Gene was transferred to the Phillips Refinery in Kansas City, Mo. Bernice transferred with US Rubber in another secretarial position. She left US Rubber to become a stay-at-home mom and had their second child, Thomas Terrell (Terry). Gene later relocated to Okmulgee with Phillips and at this time she worked as a legal secretary at Rainey & Barksdale Law Firm. She was cub scout Den Mother to Pat while in Kansas City and later to Terry while in Okmulgee. She was active in the Episcopal Church of Okmulgee and at one time was president of the Episcopal Church Women of the Church. She was member of Chapter Z P.E.O. and served as president. Later when living in Harlingen, TX, she served as president of P.E.O. there. They remained in Okmulgee where both of their sons graduated from high school and they later went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma. Patrick is a retired attorney living in Pagosa Springs, Co., and Terry is a retired pharmacist residing in Norman, OK.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Dorothy, brothers Orben Casey and Gilbert Casey and half-brother Alfard Goff.

She is survived by her sons, Patrick (wife Linn) and Terry (wife Linda).

Additionally, she is survived by grandchildren, Christopher Patrick Moore (wife Amy) of London, England; Lindsay Terrell Buell (husband Eric) and Casey Erin Moore all of Oklahoma City. She also is survived by nine great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Epworth Villa in Oklahoma City for the loving care they provided her during her time there. Additionally, they wish to thank the staff at Moore Funeral Home-Southlawn Chapel.
