Obituary

Family suggests in Alvin Isidore Leerdam, the son of George Ivan and Isora Henrietta Thomas Leerdam, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 80 years old on Wednesday, July 19th 2017, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Alvin was born and raised in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. He attended Dober Elementary School and graduated from Charlotte Amalie High School in June 1955. In February 1956, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was trained in Texas and Florida. A significant amount of his military assignment was spent at Kindley Air Force Base in Bermuda. While in the Air Force, he married the love of his life and classmate, Edith Maria Penn. They celebrated sixty years of marriage this past January. He was the father of four children: Linda Yvonne, Barry Alan, Brent Alvin & Louryse Yvette, sixteen grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren, with one more on the way.

After an honorable discharge from the military, Alvin joined the Department of Public Safety with the Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) as an officer while also attending the University of the Virgin Islands. During his time in the Police Force, he was trained at the Philadelphia Training Academy and graduated in 1963. Through his years as an officer, he advanced into a position where he was responsible for personally training all cadets in firearms. Alvin was then appointed as Director of the Bureau of Investigation's Drug and Narcotics Division. He attended the FBI, (Federal Bureau of Investigation) Academy in Washington D.C., where he graduated in the Class of 1966. He later moved up the ranks in the force to Captain of Police and retired from the Police Force in December 1984.

From 1986 to 1991, Alvin worked with the Legislature of the Virgin Islands as Chief of Security and Sergeant-At-Arms. The Lord spoke and directed Alvin and his wife in June of 1991 to go into full time ministry, where he attended and graduated from Victory Bible Institute (VBI) in Tulsa, OK. He graduated from VBI in 1993. His wife, Maria, also graduated from VBI, where they later joined the staff at Victory Christian Center as Care Pastors and served for 16 years.

Alvin was a fine example of a man who wholeheartedly served God, his family and his country. He has left a legacy that will live on for generations.

Family suggests in honor of Alvin's memory, donations be made to Victory Christian Center Missions.
