Andre Jacques Joseph Orius Champagne, born on September 19, 1943, in Eastview, Ontario, Canada passed away on September 3, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was 81 years old.
Born to loving parents Fernand Champagne and Priscille Lemay Champagne, Andre grew up in Canada and attended Academie de la Salle Ottawa graduating in 1959. He then went on to have an extremely successful junior hockey career playing for the St. Michael's Majors and the Toronto Marlboros. He achieved junior hockey's highest honor with both of these programs, winning the prestigious Memorial Cup in 1961 with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors and again in 1964 with the Toronto Marlboros.
Andre went on to play professional hockey for the Toronto Maple Leafs. His hockey journey eventually brought him to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he finished out his career with the Tulsa Oilers. He made Tulsa his permanent home, where he married, raised a family, and became an active part of the community.
After his hockey career, Andre pursued various professional paths. He became a small business owner of a machine shop and later did survey work for MPSI Systems, Inc. His work ethic, leadership, and integrity carried through every chapter of his professional life.
Andre remained active in the hockey community long after hanging up his skates. He was a beloved coach, known for his passion, mentorship, and unwavering support of young hockey players. Even in his final days, he could be found rinkside, still giving back to the game that shaped his life.
He was also an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed watching his family compete in various sports. He loved cheering for the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Dallas Stars, the Oklahoma Sooners, and was an enthusiastic tennis player himself.
