Anna Lee Young, 91, of Drumright, Oklahoma, passed from this earthly life into the arms of her Savior on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with dementia. Though the disease took much from her, it could never steal her sweetness, her laughter, or that unmistakable smile that left its mark on so many.
Anna Lee was born in Clinton, Oklahoma, on November 2, 1933, to Elmer and Nova Lee Davenport, and grew up alongside her two brothers and three sisters. She had a special bond with her sisters, that was evident by a lifetime of silliness that ensued when they were together.
While working at the local movie theater selling tickets in 1951, a young man named Lee Roy Young walked into her life - and never walked back out. The two were married soon after, beginning a beautiful love story that would last more than 58 years before his passing in 2009.
Together, Anna Lee and Lee Roy built a life in Bristow, Oklahoma, where they raised their five children Steve, Debbie, Dennis, and twins Kim and Tim. Anna Lee worked for C.R. Anthony's in Bristow and later for Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E) in both Bristow and Drumright. No matter where she worked or what she was doing, she was known for her kind spirit, quiet strength, and genuine smile that could light up any room - a smile she passed on too many of her children and grandchildren.
Outside of work, Anna Lee poured herself into her family, her friends, and activities. With her many friends and clubs, she loved to bake and craft; making embroidered tea towels for her granddaughters, filling her "gift closet" just in case of surprise visitors, and always making sure no one left her house hungry. She made everyone feel seen, loved, and welcomed - a true reflection of her Savior's heart.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew her as Grandma, Granny, or GG. Whether it was teaching a granddaughter how to shave her legs in secret, entering a "from-the-box" cake in the county fair (and winning first place!), or climbing trees and sharing ice cream until it was gone, she made ordinary moments unforgettable and her house always smelled like fresh baked goodies.
Anna Lee is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lee Roy Young, two sons, Dennis Young and Tim Young, and one granddaughter, Kristen Young, her parents and siblings: James Davenport, JD Davenport, and Lola Tharp Hamilton. She leaves behind a beautiful family who will continue her legacy of love: her children Debbie Wiginton, Kim Allen and husband Bill, and Steve Young, her sisters Cheryl Pfeifer Jones and Norma Dean Snider, her eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and countless friends who adored her. Over the last several years, Anna Lee has been supported by many wonderful caregivers, in particular Louella Bullard and Hortence (Pooh) Tarver who have become more like family.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, October 24th, at 1:00 PM at Tri-County Church of Christ, 1802 East Main Street, Cushing, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Saint Francis Hospice, 6660 S. Yale Ave, #350, Tulsa, OK 74136. The family deeply appreciates your prayers as they celebrate a life so well-lived.
Anna Lee was sweet and kind-hearted, with a spirit both sassy and strong. She taught us the beauty of generosity, the joy of creativity, and the power of a simple smile. Though we will miss her dearly, we rejoice knowing she has been reunited with her husband, sons, and granddaughter, and that we will be reunited with her as well one day soon.
