Obituary

Annabelle Goodman Monnet

Annabelle Monnet 88 passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. She died peacefully at her home with her husband and family.

She was born on December 24, 1924 in Muskogee to Harley W. Goodman and Mildred Abel Goodman. A child of the Great Depression, she learned the values of frugality, self-reliance, ambition and curiosity which she passed to her children. Annabelle graduated from Tulsa University in 1946 with a BA in Arts & Sciences and where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She worked briefly as a commercial artist and a teacher and married her surviving husband Burford D. Monnet on November 23, 1946 in Ft. Smith, AR.

Annabelle and Burford settled in Tulsa to raise a family and where he started his career as a lawyer. They have 5 children who live far apart but remain very close to their parents and to each other. They are Maureen Hyde (Santa Fe, NM), Bill Monnet (Sausalito, CA), John Monnet (Oklahoma City), Bob Monnet (Tulsa) and Katharine Monnet (Tulsa). There are also 3 wonderful granddaughters Lauren, Jessica and Paige Monnet.

When the children were raised Annabelle was able to indulge her interests in art, history and travel. For many years she was a docent at Gilcrease Museum and volunteered at the Tulsa Historical Society where she recorded the oral histories of the people who made Tulsa an oil capital. She was also a long time member of the Ruskin Art Club. A woman of great energy, she also worked as a realtor and traveled extensively. She traveled to Mexico, England and

frequently to Europe. A favorite photo shows our adventurous Mother in 1990, in front of the Berlin Wall, shortly after the reunification of Germany.

In recent years her energy has lapsed but she retained to the end her self-reliance, her curiosity and her love for family. In her final weeks she was at home with Burford and receiving the marvelous nursing care Shyrli Thomas, Cynthia Baker and Doris Siebert. She died quietly and at peace. Annabelle was predeceased by her sister Roberta Goodman in 1993 and is survived by her brother Harley W. Goodman, Jr. of Little Rock, AR and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful Wife and Mother and continues to live in our hearts. Services are directed by Moore Southlawn Chapel and a public Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 11 at 1pm at the Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Moore's Southlawn 663 - 2233 share memories at www .moorefuneral.com
