Arlene Marie Ruegg
Arlene Marie Ruegg was born in Queens, NYC on January 16th, 1945 to George and Marion (Lewis) Ruegg. Arlene passed away on October 7th, 2014 at her Tulsa home of nearly 35 years.
Arlene had three sons: William Jr., Paul, and Jeff Casteel; and one step-daughter, Kristin Phelps-Major. She spent more than 35 years with the love of her life, Cheryl Phelps.
Arlene retired after twenty years in the printing industry. She previously worked at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center and the Tulsa Assembly Center, where she prepared venues for large events and shows. She had the honor of preparing Ella Fitzgerald's piano before her performance at the grand opening of the Performing Arts Center. In her retirement, Arlene enjoyed giving her time and energy to Tulsa's less fortunate. She delivered meals for Meals on Wheels, worked with Rebuilding Tulsa Together, volunteered at the Day Center for the Homeless, and participated in many other projects in support of the community she loved so much. Arlene had a special place in her heart for lost and injured animals. She rescued and cared for many, and always felt they had adopted her. Arlene has been an active member of Tulsa's Unity Church for over 20 years.
Arlene was preceded in death by her father, her youngest brother, Steven Allen Ruegg, and her firstborn son, William Paul Casteel Jr.
Arlene is survived by her mother, sister Diana and husband John Bean, sister Lori Ruegg, brother George Ruegg, the love of her life and best friend, Cheryl Phelps, son Paul and wife Jennifer Casteel, son Jeff and wife Laura Casteel, step-daughter Kristin and husband Chris Major, grandchildren Christian Casteel, Kathryn and Allison Major, and William Paul Casteel III, and cats Newman and Callie. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins all over the country.
A memorial service will be held at Unity Church, 3355 S. Jamestown Avenue in Tulsa, at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 19th, 2014. Arlene requested that friends and family attending the service wear bright-colored clothing.
