Arlita Irene Wood died early Wednesday morning, January 24, 2018. She was born August 17, 1922 to Lloyd and Irvene Gilmore in Sand Springs, OK. As a WWI veteran, Mr. Gilmore had to move his young family numerous times in search of meaningful work. After Medio station on Sand Springs line, Mr. Gilmore moved his young family to Salisbury, MO. This was a treasured memory for Mrs. Wood because she was living with her mother's extended Horton family in Salisbury. Sometime later, the Gilmore family moved to a farm in what was then rural Jenks. Mr. Gilmore began a successful career growing as well as delivering produce. His Gilmore Produce Company serviced many area restaurants. Arlita was quite fond to recall the years when her mother played piano for Diane Neff School of Dance. She took lessons then advanced to become a dance instructor at Miss Neff;s school. Arlita attended Barnard Elementary and Wilson Jr High, she graduated from Central High School in 1939, then she attended University of Tulsa joining the Epsilon Gamma chapter of Phi Mu fraternity. After graduation she joined the secretarial pool at Stanolind Laboratories located downtown Tulsa on No Lewis. While working at Stanolind she met Bennie B. Wood and they were married June 6, 1946, they enjoyed over 63 yrs together until Bennie's death January 20, 2010.
She was preceded in death by Bennie and grandson Benjamin Gregory Wood.
Arlita is survived by sons: Dr. Rick Wood and wife Janet of OKC., Dan of Tulsa ,Steven of San Antonio, Brian and wife Julie of Fayetteville, AR.. Grandchildren: Rebecca Bryan and husband Patrick of Clarksville, TN., Tyler Watkins and wife Brandi of Choctaw, Lauren Browder and husband Phil of Norman, Eliot Wood of St. Paul, MN, Olivia Wood of Fayetteville,AR. Five great-grandchildren; Gus, Cormac, Cadel, Maggie Bryan and Claire Browder. Plus cousins Mary Ann Ramage of Lynnwood, VA., Barbara Gilmore of LaJolla,CA, Jean White, OKC and Suzanne Haight of Juneau, AK.
Arlita was such a loving, caring person with a tremedous, engaging smile that could melt all cares and problem away. You couldn't ask for a better Best Friend Forever. We release Arlita into Your care, O Lord, Thank You for letting us know and be with Arlita. She was particulary proud of her years of service and work supporting the alumnae of Epsilon Gamma chapter of Phi Mu. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made in honor of Arlita G.
