Obituary

Arthur E. Rubin

Arthur Edmund Rubin was born December 5, 1921 to Edwin Carl Albert Rubin and Margarethe Stoekel Rubin. Although he was born in Fairland, OK, he spent most of his life as a proud, colorful Tulsan. Arthur served with distinction in the Philippines during WWII and in Japan immediately following VJ Day in the Army Air Corps from 1941-45, leaving as a Captain in charge of the Officer's Branch of the 5th Air Force. Following the war, he earned his law degree from the University of Oklahoma and became a law professor at the University of Tulsa. He practiced law for many years at Gable, Gotwals and with James R. Gotwals Associates. He served on the Oklahoma Employees Retirement Fund Board and the State Industrial Finance Board. He dedicated years of his time, energy, extensive historical knowledge, and political savvy to the Republican Party of Oklahoma, and he has been honored repeatedly by the party on a state and national level. Many considered him the "grandfather" of the Tulsa County Republican Party and continued to seek his advice throughout his life.
An avid gardener and bird enthusiast, Arthur turned his long-time home on S. Gary Avenue into a showpiece of roses, irises, peacocks, exotic waterfowl, and other birds, as well as over-the-top displays of Christmas lights. He bred endangered Trumpeter Swans for release into the wild and worked to re-introduce Wild Turkeys to Turkey Mountain. He was active on the Tulsa River Parks authority under (then) Mayor James Inhofe, donating swans to their new home on the Arkansas River.
Arthur will be missed by his loving family, many friends, and colleagues. In his past few years, he bored all who would listen with boasts (all true of course) of his fabulous grandchildren (Kimberly Hulsey and her husband Mike, Madeleine and Alexander Rubin) and great grandchildren (Noah and Caleb Hulsey.) He is also survived by sons Karl Perry Rubin and Alexander Nicholas Rubin Shreders and his partner Randall S. Kaplan, as well as his daughter-in-law, Martha Blue.
He was preceded in death by his beloved and vibrant wife of over 50 years, Doris Perry Rubin, and his youngest son, Eric Charles Rubin as well as brother Louis Rubin of Dallas, Texas and sister Margery Anna Rubin Wolf of Pueblo, Colorado.

The Rubin family also gives thanks for the staff of St. Simeons, specifically Arthur's two Angels, as well as Darlene, Rhonda and Honey. Love and our most heartfelt thanks to Arthur's caretaker of the last three years, Shirley Ferguson. Arthur and Shirley spent each Friday together which started with breakfast at the Village In on Harvard and included haircuts, pedicures, doctor's appointments and driving down unknown Tulsa roads. Shirley made Arthur's last years very special.

Visitation Friday February 7, 2014 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM, Moore Funeral Home Rosewood Chapel at 2570 S. Harvard, Ave in Tulsa, OK. A celebration of Arthur's life will take place at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2550 East 71st Street in Tulsa, OK. Interment at Fairland Cemetery in Fairland, OK will follow. The Rubin family requests donations to Saint Simeons Episcopal Home in Tulsa, OK in lieu of flowers. www.moorefuneral.com
