Mrs. Avelina "Belen" Parungao Laxamana was born on June 9, 1943 in Nueva Ecija, Philippines. She went to college to study elementary education. She was united in holy matrimony to Lamberto Laxamana on January 28, 1978 in Bulacan, Philippines. This union was blessed with two children, Arlene, born in November 1978, and Arnold born in April 1980.
Avelina came to the United States with her husband in 1979, after he accepted an engineering job in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They would settle in Glenpool, OK for the remainder of her life.
Mrs. Laxamana worked at Oral Roberts University, in the Learning Resource Center as a librarian and supervised student workers in the Elementary Education section of the library. She also worked part time in the cafeteria at the University in the evenings. She was "Mom" to many students at Oral Roberts University. She retired from ORU in 2011 after almost 40 years of service, to stay home to babysit her first grandson, LJ Lee.
She served as Deaconess for her church, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) for many years and was an active member. She was an enthusiastic member of the Philippine-American Association of Northeastern Oklahoma for several years, serving as secretary and helped choreograph Philippine Folk Dances for programs.
She loved to cook, throw parties with lots of food, sing karaoke with her husband, and shop for bargains to add to her gift closet. She was an extremely generous gift giver.
She quietly departed this life on Saturday, August 8th, 2020 at her home. She was 77. She was preceded in death by her father, Mamerto Parungao and her mother, Concordia Parungao.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Arlene Laxamana, of Glenpool, Oklahoma, and Arnold (Rosa) Laxamana of Thompsons Station, Tennessee; her grandchildren, LJ Lee, and Logan and Audrey Laxamana; her brothers, Roberto (Marites) Parungao of Westmont, IL, Rizal (Ofelia) Parungao of Des Plaines, IL, and Rogelio Parungao (Philippines); and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, and friends.
