BARBARA "BARBIE" WINSLOW BLUE
Spring is the season of New Beginnings. It is also a season of warmth and cheerfulness, full of outdoor activities and playfulness, vibrant in its colors and full of bliss. Those who met Barbie know that it is these same attributes that made her such a unique and special person. After a long hospital stay fighting complications with cancer, Barbie was delighted to be able to return to her home once again, where she could look out at the beautiful Spring flowers blooming in her yard and hear the birds chirping in the trees by her window. Barbie was born on May 16, 1944 to William and Dorothy Winlsow in Patterson, New Jersey, and was raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She died on May 30, 2016, starting a new beginning in heaven.
Barbie attended Andrews School for Girls in Willoughby, Ohio; but would continue to spend summers with her family in Brazil. That is where she met her sweetheart, D. Burdette "Bur" Blue III, while he was vacationing with friends. She attended the University of Oklahoma, eventually married Bur, and the two spent several years together starting their family in Houston, Texas before ultimately deciding to return to Oklahoma, where Barbie became an active member of the Tulsa community. She was a beautiful woman, both inside and out. Barbie was always known to be dynamic and energetic, thoughtful and caring, bubbly and fun - an amazingly loyal and loving friend. She understood that life was a beautiful gift; and she lived her life to the fullest, blessing each and every person she encountered.
Barbie took great pride in raising two very strong and successful daughters. She was also tireless in giving herself to her community, serving numerous organizations and having a significant impact on countless others. She volunteered for the Tulsa Boys Home, the Junior League of Tulsa, the Psychiatric Center, and the Junior Philharmonic (serving as President). She served as Chairman of the Heart Ball, Chairman of the Heart Association's "Go Red" Fundraiser, and Director of St. John's Episcopal Church's Alter Guild. She was also a member of the Oaks Country Club and Shadow Mountain Racquet Club. She loved music, gardening, tennis, golf, snow skiing, knitting, needlepoint projects, talking on the phone with her daughters and traveling the world to exotic locations with her husband and friends. She also loved spending time at her Ozark home on Table Rock Lake as well as her home in Eagle, Colorado. But more than anything, she loved her family, her friends and the countless animals she cared for over the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy Winslow. She is survived by her most beloved husband of 51 years, Burdette Blue, her daughter Sherry King and her husband Kris, her daughter Kristin Fisher and her husband Tim, five grandchildren Konner King, Ashley King, Kate Fisher, David Fisher, Jonathan Fisher, and her brothers Gary Winslow and Donald Winslow. Additionally, she is survived by her adorable "Danny Boy" and "Cutty Bear," two of the sweetest dogs she has ever owned. Finally, she is survived by a list of devoted friends that is so long it could fill two pages of this newspaper, friends who cared for her each and every day as she fought the good fight against cancer. Barbie loved to decorate and could transform any space into a warm and inviting place of beauty and class. Although we cant imagine life without her here, we are comforted to know that she will be preparing an amazing place for all of us for when we are reunited with her. Until then, there are no words to express how much she was loved and how greatly she will be missed.
Services will be held June 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church located at 4200 S. Atlanta Pl., Tulsa, OK 74105.
