Barbara Merle Hicks Norman passed away on November 27, 2022. Barbara was born to Valencha Sultana and Arthur Merle Hicks on December 22, 1933 in Tulsa.
A lifelong Tulsan, Barbara was a graduate of Will Rogers High School in 1951. She attended Oklahoma A & M University in Stillwater where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and graduated with a degree in Business in 1955.
Barbara met Charles Norman while working on the same floor in the Pythian Building in downtown Tulsa. They were both involved in a local political campaign for Tommy Frasier, who was running for county attorney.
They were married on Jan. 5, 1957 at her parents' ranch near Porum, OK. They drove to New Orleans for their honeymoon which began their lifelong love of food and travel.
She was an avid sports fan, influenced by her father's and Charles's love for sports. She attended many college football and basketball games, 6 OU bowl games, baseball games, auto races, golf and tennis tournaments.
Barbara was very talented, she was a gourmet cook, she was an excellent seamstress, she loved art and the performing arts. She supported the Tulsa Philharmonic and the Tulsa Symphony. She enjoyed baking bread, cookies, pies and her famous brownies! She loved spending time at Grand Lake with family and friends.
Barbara was known for her love of the Lord and her extensive knowledge of the Bible. She could quote the Bible, practically chapter and verse from memory. She encouraged and mentored her family and friends in their faith in the Lord.
She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, aunt and friend. She was always encouraging, supportive, uplifting, kind and generous.
She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by many.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Norman; her parents, Arthur and Valencha Hicks; her sister, Cora Dean and niece, Carrie Dean; and Greg Morgan.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Denny Stanford; her son, Philip H. Norman; daughter, Amy C. Norman,all of Tulsa.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at First Methodist Church, Tulsa on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022 at 2:30pm. Preceded by a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Contributions can made to First Methodist Church of Tulsa, Folds of Honor Foundation, and Disabled American Veterans.
