Obituary

Rejoice! Barbara Ann Patterson passed away to glory on October 6, 2022. She passed in peace and without pain. One could only imagine the glorious sight she saw as Angels escorted her from her confines and away to her promised reward.

Barbara was brought into this world on March 22, 1936. This era was the final years of the Great Depression. In 1943 her hometown experienced a great flood. She would tell you she was aware of the struggles her mother, Opal and father James Rawlings were faced with. These struggles were overcome through the strength of her family's legacy of love for God and their strong ties to their church community. Her entire family were rich with joy and happiness and brought her a legacy of compassion and service leaning on biblical teachings and the fruits of the spirit in their daily lives. She would tell you how she learned gardening, planting, harvesting and cooking. Her mother would tell you of Barbara's formidable talent as she used her voice and love of music to bring joy to others. Even traveling with her school's orchestra, playing the violin and singing, outside of her hometown of Joplin.

She met Robert J Patterson and they were married in October of 1954. They were both 18 years old. He was the love of her life.

Bob continued serving the National Guard in Tulsa, Oklahoma after serving the Missouri National Guard. They started a family in Tulsa. They went on to have 3 children. Bob would tell you she was a wonderful mother to their children, a great cook and homemaker. She supported him as he pursued his service in the Oklahoma National Guard. She would lovingly sew on his patches and press his uniforms. She was very proud of her husband when he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

They joined the Methodist Church and became leaders. Both were in the choir and were devoted to teaching the youth in the church for many years. She devoted much of her time to her children and grandchildren. She went all out at birthdays & holidays decorating and cooking from recipes handed down for years from her mother and grandmother. She was also devoted to her pets and would spoil them just like she would her children.

After becoming widowed, Barbara showing signs of dementia, moved to assisted living. Even though her memory was diminished, her light and spirit were still shining. Attendants, nursing staff and Hospice friends would tell you she was a sweet & loving soul. Some would hear her singing hymns to herself that she would never forget from her childhood and choir as she was walking down the halls and relaxing in the community room.

Even in her last days she continued to bless those around her with her sparkling blue eyes and sweet nature.

Thank you, Father, for Barbara Ann Patterson!

We Love You Mom!
