Barbara Jean Shoemaker went to be with the Lord on Friday September 22, 2017. She died in her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Barbara was born September 24, 1936, Newton, Kansas to Howard Unruh and Hattie (Gillmore) Unruh. She was preceeded in death by her parents, son Brian, grandsons Dale Roberts and Mitchell Roberts.
Barbara grew up in the farm lands of Kansas. She started her education in a one-room country school and graduated the eighth grade in a class of four. She went to high school in Parsons and then onto Parsons Jr. College graduating with High Honors.
Her career started at MK&T Railroad as a payroll clerk. She raised four (4) children and then re-entered the corporate world. Through the ensuing years she worked as a clerk, secretary, administrative manager, owned and managed a business, was a real estate agent and tried her hand at creating an online business with her daughter, Lynette.
Barbara enjoyed oil painting, interior design, landscaping, writing, and she had several articles published by "Angels on Earth" magazine. Her most favorite hobby was traveling with her husband. They set a goal of visiting all of the 48 contiguous states and achieved that goal by 2002.
Barbara accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at the age of 15 and actively served our Lord throughout her life.
She is survived by (husband Don), daughter Lynette Potter and husband Gene, Deborah Chartrand and husband Byron, son Kevin and wife Lacy, daughter Carla Conder and husband Ted, 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was loved much by her family and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be 4-6 PM, Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Moore's Southlawn, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK. Memorial service will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, September 25, 2017 at Heatherridge Baptist Church, 6901 E. 91st, Tulsa, OK. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
