Obituary

Basil Ray James
June 15, 1929 -- September 24, 2020
Basil, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed on to a new life in Christ, leaving behind a legacy of love and abiding joy in every life he touched.
He grew up in Wagoner, OK the son of Basil Ray James, Sr. and Ruth Allen James. Following high school graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division to serve his country during the Korean Conflict. Prior to shipping out, he married the young lady he had been "sweet" on, Barbara Parsons, on September 8, 1950. They shared almost 53 years of marriage and raised three children, Denise (Randy) Doyle; Dan (Debbie) and Bill (Kelly), prior to her untimely death in 2003.
Basil graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1957 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He loved OU and was a 65-year season ticket holder, rarely missing a home game and loved attending the Red River Rivalry, especially when the Sooners won.
After graduating he was recruited by the Elliott Company to use his mechanical engineering degree to sell their engineered products, making friends of clients until his retirement at age 80. He pursued his favorite pastimes of fishing, flying his airplane, "piddling around" in the garage and an occasional golf game with the same gusto he brought to his sales job.
His real love was the Lord Jesus, for whom he was a fervent witness. One of his great joys was active involvement in many areas of Asbury United Methodist Church. It was through Asbury that he met the second love of his life, Gay Andrasko, whom he married in May 2005, who survives him. Together they enjoyed three stepchildren: Debbie (Kirk) Brassfield; Nancy and Michael (Christine) Andrasko. His legacy of love will live on in his children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. God has used his faithful servant, Basil, to mark future generations of lives he touched while on this earth and will continue to use the seeds he planted after his death.
There will be a private burial service officiated by Dr. Tom Harrison. Anyone wishing to honor Basil's memory should send donations to The Bill Mason Scholarship Fund, Asbury United Methodist Church, 6767 South Mingo Road, Tulsa, OK. 74133.
