Benjamin Albert Upson
Benny was born February 14, 1926 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He passed from this life Sunday, May 4, 2014 in Claremore. He attended and graduated from Central High School in Tulsa in May, 1944. While at Central High he was a member of the cross country team where he excelled as a long distance runner.

Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in China, Burma and India as part of the Asiatic Pacific Campaign during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Uncle Sam called Benny back into the service in June 1949 as a drill sergeant at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he trained troops for service in the Korean War. Prior to reporting for service, he married Jeanelle Martin on July 9, 1949 in Tulsa. They celebrated their 64th anniversary in July 2013.

After his discharge in 1952, Benny returned to Tulsa where he was employed as an aircraft mechanic at Spartan Aeronautics specializing in rebuilding radial aircraft engines. When Spartan relocated, he was hired as a mechanic by Aircraft Accessories where he retired.

He was an active member in the Owasso congregation of Community of Christ where he served as a Deacon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanelle Upson; father, Arthur Upson; mother, Hattie Manuelo; sisters, Imogene Cotton and Penny Egleston

He is survived by children, Steve & Jeanie Upson of Ardmore; Mark & Andrea Upson of Owasso; Donna & Jeff Lynch of Claremore; grandchildren, Matt & Irene Upson of Stillwater, OK; Dr. Ryan Lynch of Edmond; Dr. Benjamin & Andrea Lynch of Tulsa; Cory Upson of Independence, MO; Breanne & Justin Cowell of Owasso; Taylor & John Coggins of Tulsa; and Kyndal Upson of Owasso; and great-grandson Colin Upson of Stillwater, OK. Visitation will be 6-8 P.M., Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Moore's Southlawn. Service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Moore's Southlawn Chapel. Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233
