Bernard Grayson Peace was born in Uniontown, Arkansas, on June 20, 1930 to Ural Sanford Peace and Marjorie Howell Peace. He moved on to Glory on February 19, 2021, from his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 90.
He moved to McAlester, Oklahoma, when he was 14 and completed high school there. He then worked at the bank for a couple of years. In 1952 he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to take a job with Burroughs Corporation (now UNISYS)
In 1950, he married Doris Joan Brayton. Together they had two children, Rick Peace and Paula Peace Elich. In 1980 he married Judy Sherwood who still had three children in the home, Michael Gillam, Kris Gillam, and Patricia Gillam Coffey. He is survived by his wife, Judy, the five children listed, 10 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Ural Peace, Marjorie Peace and Genew Peace, siblings, Beauford Peace and Arta Peace Janway, and his first wife, Doris.
Bernard enjoyed hunting and horses. He spent many hours in the field and on horseback with his good friend Benny Morrow.
He came to Tulsa Baptist Temple in 1980 when he married Judy and has been a faithful member since. He served as head usher from the mid '80s until his illness prevented him. As that time approached, he began to train the young men of the church to step into that role and to be responsible for it. He was always willing to do whatever job was asked of him. He was a wonderful greeter, never meeting a stranger and being ready with a smile, a handshake, and a bulletin.
Heaven is sweeter because he is there. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.
Donations may be made in his honor to the Mission Fund at New Heights Baptist Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
His funeral service will be at New Heights Baptist Church, 8611 E. 21st St., Tulsa, Oklahoma, on February 26, 2021, at 10:00 am. Interment will be in Uniontown, Arkansas.
