Obituary

Betty Funderburk was born at home in 1934 to Ethel and William Stevenson. She was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Central High School in 1952 and later married Ronald Funderburk . Their daughter Ronda was born the following year, and their son Ronnie several years later. Betty worked in various office positions throughout her career.
Although she fought orthopedic issues all of her life, she didn't let them slow her down. She never complained or even acted like she had a disability. She was a strong-willed, strong-minded person and even through multiple surgeries, body casts, and therapy, she never complained about her disability or asked "why me?"
In her younger years, much to her parents' dismay, she learned to surf. She went fishing and camping. She loved to visit amusement parks where her favorite rides were the roller coasters the bigger the better. (This was the same way she liked Christmas decorations, the bigger and brighter the better!)
If you knew Betty, you probably spent hours in her home or on the phone with her. She was generous, kind-hearted and always made her friends feel welcome. You never went hungry at Betty's house. She loved shopping, auctions, parties, and entertaining. For a couple of years she and a friend tried their hand at a small catering business in Denver. Her family remembers her pies: apple, pecan, lemon, caramel, and most of all her own double chocolate French silk!
Betty was a long-time member of the Seventh-day Adventist church. For much of her life she was involved in church activities and was often Head Deaconess. If you needed a meal planned, you talked to Betty.
Betty passed away on Thursday March 5, 2015 from complications after a stroke in 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents Ethel and William Stevenson, and son, Ronald Ray Funderburk II. She is survived by her husband Ronald; daughter Ronda, her husband Patrick Daugherty, and their children Raymond, Sean, & Kelli Daugherty; her brother Kenneth Stevenson, his wife Lu, and their children Kateri & Randy Nagy, Tempest & Doug Dulany and Sean Stevenson; and a host of life-long friends. She will be missed.
