Obituary

Betty Jane Foster Giesen was born on May 31st, 1939 in Muskogee, OK. Her parents were Ambrose Webster Foster and Alice Josephine Mansel Foster. She had 2 brothers, Jack and David, and 5 sisters Virginia, Dorothy, Mary, Oma and Nina.

She married John Alden "Jack" Giesen. They married about six months later, on June 30th, 1956, when Betty was barely 17. They had two daughters, Jacqueline Anne "Jackie" and Susan Elizabeth. Jackie had one son, Jared Kyle Edwards, who gave Betty three great Grandchildren ~ Eli, Jaxson and Angel. Susan had three children, Jessica Anne, John Michael and Jacklyn Elizabeth DiBernardo. Jessica blessed us with Alyssa Marie and Lucy Mae. John gave us two more precious girls, Emma Elizabeth and Abby Lynn, and Jacklyn our sweet Lina Rose. The Greats, as she liked to call them, brought their "Mema", as she liked to be called, untold hours of joy.

Betty lost her beloved partner and best friend, Jack, in June of 1998. They had a marriage that the majority of people just dream about. They lived, worked, traveled, and raised their daughters together with love. Betty and her girls never wanted for anything, except perhaps more time with Jack. She met John Young the year following Jack's passing. While they never married, they were committed to each other until his death in July of 2024.

In her younger years, she traveled, having begun as a small child taking trips to visit family in California. During her life she lived in more than half of the 50 United States, and visited all but one, Alaska. Through the years she worked in several areas of interest. She ran political campaigns for James R. Jones and several others. She kept the books for Reeves TV and Appliances, a retail furniture and appliance store, and did taxes for H&R Block. I think her favorite job was when Jack retired, and subsequently passed, she successfully ran the local Carpenter Apprenticeship program for five years.

As we say goodbye to this beautiful, loving matriarch, we honor the life she lived, and the legacies she left behind. We will all keep a part of Betty/Mema alive within our hearts and minds. She meant different things to different people, but the love and respect for her was felt by all.
