Obituary

Betty Jo (Bruner) Neal passed on from this earth to her new heavenly home on January 26th, 2016. Betty was the daughter of Roy and Zula Bruner of Dawson, OK. Betty was born in Dawson on the 11th of September in 1925 as the 5th of 9 children to Roy and Zula. She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings.

Betty grew up in Dawson where she met a handsome young man by the name of William (Gib) Neal. They were sweethearts during WWII where he served in the 440th Battalion and she helped the war effort while working as a machinist at McDonnell-Douglas in Tulsa. Upon Gib's return from Europe, they wed in a small courthouse ceremony in Coweta, OK. They wasted no time in expanding their family with 2 sons (Everett and David) and a daughter (Kathryn).

Betty continued to raise her family in Dawson where she was supported by a lot of family and friends. She was a happy homemaker and devoted wife who raised her children in a warm and loving home. After the kids were grown, she went back into retail and retired as a senior sales associate with Sears department stores after over 20 years of service.

When the grandkids came along, Betty easily transitioned into the role of devoted and loving Grandma. Grandma Betty was truly in love with each and every one of her grandchildren and would delight in entertaining them during sleepovers and summer vacations. Grandma Betty had a passion for all kinds of games and puzzles and it was not unusual for her to challenge someone to a game of skill (Uno, SkipBo, Monopoly and Scrabble were among her favorites). Grandma Betty also loved a good word game and jigsaw puzzle. She loved the daily cryptoquotes and crossword puzzles in the newspaper where she could keep her skills up while dominating everyone who ever watched Wheel of Fortune with her.

While enjoying retirement with her devoted husband, Gib, Betty enjoyed puttering around the house and tending her backyard garden and pecan trees. She was an animal lover and had many dogs and birds over the years.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of over 70 years, William (Gib) Neal, of Tulsa. She is also survived by a son, Everett Neal of Tulsa and his spouse, Marilyn; a son, David Neal of Collinsville and his spouse, Bal; and a daughter, Kathryn (Neal) Gray of Sand Springs and her spouse, Wayne. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren (Doll, Aut, Debby, Amy, Becky, Brian, Daniel, and Anna) and 13 great-grandchildren.
