Obituary

On April 6, 2018 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 88, Betty Edelda Trusty passed away peacefully and was welcomed to heaven by her grandson, son, and husband. She was born on August 21, 1929 in Ellsworth, Arkansas to Doc and Mentle Scrudder. She attended Paris Public Schools where she received her GED. On June 21, 1946, Betty married Victor Albert Trusty in Ozark, Arkansas and remained married for 71 years. Betty and Victor became the proud parents of two children, son, Larry Ray, and daughter, Helen Sue. After the birth of their children, Betty and Victor moved their small family to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma where Victor began his career at ONG and Betty became a school cook with Union Public Schools. She chose this occupation in order to be close to her children during the school day.

During their time in Broken Arrow, they became actively involved in a small church called Union Assembly, later to be called Woodland Park Assembly of God. Betty and Victor had enormous involvement in helping the church grow as a fellowship. Betty served many roles at the church as the church pianist, Sunday school teacher, nursery worker, event facilitator, choir member, but she was especially known as Sister Trusty, church secretary. She took great pride in this role as church secretary, as she served for over 30 years. There was not a day that hardly went by that she wasn't doing anything for her church or church family.

However, her world changed on August 8th, 1970, when she became a grandmother for the first time. Jeffery Kelce, Stacy Lee, Amy Carol, and Kimberly Marie became her world. She treasured being a grandmother and made sure they were each equally spoiled. She loved each of them dearly and always made sure they did not want for nothing. There were very few times the grandchildren were not at her house on the weekends.

During the years, Betty and Victor were blessed to be able to take many adventurous trips and share their stories to those who would listen. They were able to travel to Israel, Jerusalem, Holland, Egypt, Hawaii, San Diego, and many family trips to Branson, Missouri. Her and Victor also served for four years as camp cook and janitor at the Girl Scout Camp Tallchief on Zink Ranch during the summers of 1995-1998. With her enormous church involvement, she did find time to do things she thoroughly enjoyed such as working in her flower beds, cooking the best fried chicken, baking her no-bake cookies for the grandkids, and spending time being the best grandmother, mother-in-law, and mom she came to be known as. The one thing, however, that she will always be known for was her ability to be a prayer warrior. If anyone needed prayer at any time of the day, she would drop everything and instantly began to send the most powerful prayers to heaven. You knew when she prayed for you, God was definitely listening.

Betty was predeceased by her parents Doc and Mentle Scrudder; her brothers, W.H. and Amos Scrudder; her grandson, Jeffery Kelce Hicks; her son, Larry Ray Trusty and her husband Victor Albert Trusty.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and David Derton of Owasso, Oklahoma; her daughter-in-law, Gayla Trusty of Wagoner, Oklahoma; her sister Annabelle Roper of Chester, California; her grandson and wife, Stacy and Hannah HIcks of Owasso, Oklahoma; her granddaughter Amy Trusty of Muskogee, Oklahoma; her youngest granddaughter and husband, Kim and Tyson Tolbert of Merced, California and her great grandchildren, Dillion, Kelcey, Noah, Levi, Asher, Bailey, Emiley, Riley, and Averey Jo.
