Obituary

Beverlyn Looney Summers passed away peacefully in her sleep on February18, 2021 at the age of 86. She was born in Houston, Texas on November 25, 1934. She was the youngest born to Robert L Looney and Doris M Looney. Her family eventually moved to Tulsa where she graduated from Central High School.

Beverlyn attended Oklahoma A&M where she met her future husband Robert J (Bob) Summers. They later transferred to the University of Oklahoma where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Education. She was an avid fan of all OU Sooner sports.

As a longtime educator with the Tulsa Public Schools, she spent over 25 years at Clinton Middle School, where she taught Special Education.

After retirement she volunteered with Restore Hope Ministries. She would sit and pray with people who came to seek help from Restore Ministries.

The Summers were one of the original families to form Asbury United Methodist Church. They joined in December 20, 1964, just six months after Bill Mason arrived as Asbury's new minister. Beverlyn was a driving force for Asbury's prayer ministry. She was a founding member of the Priscilla UMC circle, and held several leadership positions in this women's ministry.

She found great joy in attending her grandchildren's events whether at the dance recital, or to ball diamond, and eventually attending her youngest granddaughter's Doctoral hooding.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, brother and daughter-in-law, Christy Summers. She is survived by her sons Robert James (Bo) Summers Jr. and wife Sherri of Jenks, OK. Blair Summers of Oklahoma City, OK. Grandchildren Kendra Fincannon and her husband Patrick and their two children Lillian and Hattie of Tulsa. Robert J (Trey) Summers III, his wife Brittany and their son Brody of Tulsa. Kylee Summers of Tulsa. She is also survived by her sister Betty Catching of Oklahoma City.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Restore Hope Ministries.
