Bill D. Burton, age 82, born Oct. 20, 1931 near Pine Lake, OK and passed away Sept.15, 2014 in Tulsa, OK. Bill spent his early years in southeastern OK. His family moved to California in the early 1940s. They settled in the town of Woodville and attended the Woodville Church of Christ where Bill was baptized into Christ at the age of 16. He soon preached his first sermon and began what would become a lifetime of service as a preacher of the Gospel. He attended Freed-Hardeman College, married Jo Ann Conn and moved to Stonewall OK to preach for the Church of Christ there. Over the next several years, Bill worked for Churches of Christ across OK.

In 1966, he moved his family to Rome, Italy where he helped found a new congregation & worked for about 5 years as missionaries. In 1971, Bill and Jo Ann returned to work at the
49th & Tacoma Church of Christ. Jo Ann became ill and passed away in 1976. Later,
Bill met Jody Hughes and they were soon married. He preached for the Downtown
church in Bixby. Upon his retirement, they began attending the 29th and Yale Church
of Christ. When they went to the lake house, he preached for the Quinton Church of
Christ. Bill was often invited to speak for other congregations and truly enjoyed the
opportunities to study and prepare those lessons. He also delighted in seeing the
friends he had made everywhere he went. In the last several years of his life, Bill
served as an elder at 29th and Yale where he taught adult Bible classes regularly and
preached whenever the opportunity presented itself. Some of Bill's favorite things to
do outside of his work with the Church included playing golf, watching football, &
staying in touch with his many, many friends. He enjoyed time spent with his family
and relished hearing about his grandchildren. But Bill's greatest love throughout his
life was the time he spent reading & studying the Bible.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, J.T. Burton and his, mother, "Chuck" Burton; brother, Carol and sister, Troyce. He is survived by his brother, Pat, of Woodville, CA. Bill was preceded in death by Jody Hughes Burton. He is survived by Jody's children, grandchildren and
great grandchildren who affectionately call him Grampa Bill. Bill was also preceded in
death by his first wife, Jo Ann Conn Burton. He is survived by their 3 children,
Debbie Loney, Tim Burton, and Gina Huser; their 6 grandchildren and 4 great
granddaughters who love their Daddy Bill. Viewing will be 10AM-9PM, Thursday,
September 18, 2104 at Moore's Southlawn. Memorial service will be 3:00 P.M., Friday,
