Obituary

William B. "Bill" Wilkerson was born October 27, 1930, at Hodgen, LeFlore County, Oklahoma and passed from this earthly life on April 14, 2018, at the age of 87. He was the son of Bert and Lyda Bea (Kimbro) Wilkerson, and was a brother to Mildred Crouch and Charles and James Wilkerson.

Bill attended school at Conser Elementary School and Heavener High School. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 18 and served from November 10, 1948, to October 14, 1952, at which time he was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. His most significant duty assignment was Battery A 90th AAA Gun Battalion. During the Korean conflict, he was stationed with his artillary unit for almost two years in Alaska which was then considered overseas duty because Alaska was not yet a state. He made the round trip to Alaska and back to Oklahoma in his own car in his very early 20's.

As a civilian again, he worked for Overhead Door Company in Tulsa for almost 25 years, installing and repairing all sizes of overhead doors and automatic door openers. In 1975, he ventured out on his own and opened his own shop, Bill's Automatic Door. He sold the business and retired in 1996.

He was an avid fan of Oklahoma football and the St. Louis Cardinals. His hobbies included a gun club membership and mowing with his John Deere tractor. He very much enjoyed square dancing, even helping to give lessons, where he met his future wife Thelma in 1980. The two of them enjoyed travel, including cruises and driving north in the summer and south in the winter in their motor home.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mildred Crouch. He is survived by the love of his life, Thelma (Moren) Wilkerson; daughter Susan Elaine Brewer and husband Thomas of Tulsa; daughter Linda Kay Smith and husband Scott of Broken Arrow; granddaughter Kristi Kirby of Skiatook; granddaughter Ashley Beavers and husband Wes of Moseley, Virginia; grandson Kevin Henke of Tulsa; great-grandchildren C.J. and Abri Kirby and Grayson and Wyatt Beavers; brothers Charles Wilkerson and wife Wanda, James Wilkerson and wife Wanda, all of Oklahoma City.
