Billy Dale
Taylor
Mar 4, 1934 — Jun 26, 2026
Billy D. Taylor was born on March 4, 1934, in Wetumka, Oklahoma, to Rufus Dale and Daisy Mae Taylor. He peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 26, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Bill was the youngest of five boys and was raised on the family farm outside of Holdenville, Oklahoma. He graduated from Moss High School in 1951, where he excelled on the basketball court and earned a scholarship to play basketball at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a radar and guided missile specialist. Following his military service, Bill attended Oklahoma State University, where he earned his degree in accounting.
Bill met the love of his life, Kay Frances Harjo, at Newt's Root Beer Stand in Holdenville. The two were married on January 25, 1958, and shared 68 wonderful years together. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Brent, David, Michael, and Tawana.
Bill enjoyed a successful career as an executive in the oil and gas industry, retiring from Texaco in 1989. Retirement allowed him to devote even more time to one of his greatest passions-golf. He loved the game so much that he became a familiar face at Paige Belcher Golf Course, where he played several times a week before later serving as the course starter for many years. Through golf, he formed countless friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Among Bill's proudest accomplishments was coaching his son Mike's Little League baseball team to the 1975 National Championship in Knoxville, Tennessee, where they defeated Puerto Rico for the title. It was a story he loved to share and one that brought him great joy throughout his life. He was also proud of setting the course record at LaFortune Golf Course by shooting eight under par on the front nine during a city tournament.
Above all, Bill was a devoted Christian whose faith was the foundation of his life. He loved the Lord deeply and faithfully prayed on his knees to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, every night before bed for as long as he was physically able. His unwavering faith guided the way he lived, loved, and cared for those around him.
One of the greatest joys of Bill's life came later in life when he became "Grandpa" for the first time at the age of 80 to his granddaughter, Maggie Mae. Three years later, his grandson, Carsten Ridge, completed the pair. His grandchildren became the light of his life, and he cherished every moment he spent with them.
Bill will also be remembered for the deep love he had for his family, including his oldest and only surviving brother, R.C. Taylor, who recently celebrated his 101st birthday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Dale, and Daisy Mae Taylor; his brothers, Gerald, Ferrell, and Leonard Taylor; and his beloved son, Michael Dale Taylor.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Kay Taylor; his children, Brent Taylor, David Taylor, and Tawana and Sean Cantrell; his cherished grandchildren, Maggie Mae Taylor, and Carsten Ridge Cantrell; his brother, R.C. Taylor; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
More than his accomplishments, Bill will be remembered for the way he lived. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, love, integrity, laughter, generosity, enthusiasm, kindness and the bright Taylor smile that could light up any room. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and treasured the relationships he built throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
"Well done, good and faithful servant," Matthew 25:23
