Obituary

Bobbie W. Cotten, 92 of Tulsa, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 in Atlanta, GA. Bobbie was born in Hazelhurst, MS on October 7th, 1925 to the late Charles and Celia (Walker) Wood. She married Howard M. Cotten of Jackson, MS in 1955. She earned a degree in Accounting and worked as an accountant for AT&T until she left there to raise her children.


Bobbie's life was one of service to others, especially at her church, Asbury United Methodist, where she worked and served for over 35 years. At Asbury, Bobbie managed the church kitchen, cooked weekly lunches for the Rotary Club, helped serve the annual pancake breakfast, was a wedding coordinator, and was a choir mom for the adult choir. Bobbie was a fixture at Asbury and was well known and loved by the many members who knew her and benefited from her work at the church. In addition to her work at Asbury, Bobbie was an active volunteer and supporter of many social and charitable organizations.


Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents, son, Brian M. Cotten and her husband, Howard M. Cotten. Her survivors include her daughter, Brenda and her husband, Scott Simmons of Brookhaven, GA; 2 grandchildren, Hannah and Mason Simmons who developed a deep fondness for turnip greens, black-eyed peas, and cornbread from their Mamaw; 2 sisters, Martha of Alexandria, VA and Jane of Pontotoc, MS.


Viewing will be 12 Noon-8PM, Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Moore's Southlawn, 9350 E. 51st, Tulsa, OK. A celebration of Bobbie's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 2, 2018 in Mason Chapel at Asbury United Methodist Church. A private family graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
